Re: Mormon at ages 11, 15, 24 is really Joseph Smith Jr., in disguise!
I dare say that Don Bradley's testimony hangs on the need to formulate and justify parallels because the logical conclusion of evidence prove that Joseph Smith was perpetuating a massive pious fraud. :?: The parallels I was offering between Joseph Smith and Mormon are clearly not apologetic in natu...

Re: Mormon at ages 11, 15, 24 is really Joseph Smith Jr., in disguise!
Shulem, Did you note that Mormon said that at 15 he was "visited of the Lord," and in his earliest First Vision account Joseph Smith mentioned that he was 15 when he saw the Lord? Also, Mormon grew up during a war with the Lamanites and a time when there were slippery treasures and such, which also ...

Re: Don Bradley’s gofundme
It occurs to me that to allay any privacy concerns I should clarify that I can't tell for sure that any particular contributor to the fundraiser is from the board, and even if I could, I wouldn't be able to identify who they were. Rather, the string of donations and their timing--right after my GoFu...

Re: Don Bradley’s gofundme
Awwwwww! I had no idea this had been posted here. Looking over the GoFundMe contributions tonight I noticed that there are quite a few new contributions from people whose names I didn't recognize and whom I'm not connected with on Facebook. The fact that friends here whom I know just by their board ...

Re: A Bit About Me: My Story
Free Ranger, We have some things in common. My parents were converts, my dad a very strong McConkie Mormon. I was devout as a teen but encountered doubts as well. In 2000 I stopped believing, and in 2005 I left the church - had my name removed. Kishkumen on this board and I encountered John Dehlin d...

Re: Church Membership Status - who can find out and how?
The original question was about whether family members could find out your membership status. They can't. And that's what my comments were directed to. If you're saying that board members in the word you live in may have access to your contact information, that's completely unsurprising, but, but al...

Re: Church Membership Status - who can find out and how?
The church is extremely fastidious with its privacy rules. it absolutely is not. Family members, even if they have had leadership callings, would have absolutely no access to your membership records. Again, not accurate. What membership and/or excommunication records have you attempted to look at, ...

Re: Joseph Smith and Turkmenbashy
Remember how as prophet, mayor, and justice of the peace, Joseph Smith enacted all sorts of crazy idiosyncratic rules based on his bizarre preferences? Neither do I. And having researched the man closely for 35 years, I have trouble imagining him doing any such thing. So, as amusing as the anecdotes...

Re: Secular folks should worry.
Not interested in researching your argument. For example, giving to a church is charitable giving, regardless of how it's spent. And most church's ask for donations. If I put money in a collection plate, I can claim I'm giving to charity, regardless of what the church spends it on. Caring about you...
