Re: Robert F Smith Can Kiss My A$$
Typical R. F. Smith shiny-object apologia. What he claims David McKay “declared” is from a years-after-the-fact reminiscence of Sterling McMurrin in an interview by Blake Ostler. Re: Joseph smith papers is it worth buying?
Publications from the Joseph Smith Papers Project are indispensable resources for students of Mormonism. Eventually, all the content of the printed volumes will be available on the JSPP website ; but that will take time. The transcriptions are very accurate and the annotations thoroughly researched....

Re: John Gee's latest Book of Abraham apologetics
Two quick points: 1) I’m not surprised that the same person who dictated this nonbiblical name... “ Sh e lem ” (Ether 3:1) ... and this one... “ Shul on” (Moses 6:17) ... could also dictate this one... “ Shulem ” (Fac. 3:5) 2) Here is the full sentence in the BoAbr... “Shulem, one of the king’s prin...

Re: The Diaries of Oliver Cowdery
The story about digging up Alvin has always struck me as very odd... the timing around the autumnal equinox, the assumption that they couldn’t tell whether he had been dug up just by looking (freshly overturned earth leaves telltale signs), and so on. On the 1826 trial documents, they’re authentic. ...

Re: The Diaries of Oliver Cowdery
Good summary, Johnny.
Hofmann knew (via me and others) that Alvin figured prominently in Joseph Smith’s psyche and that Cowdery had written an early history... he gave us exactly what we expected. But, yes, all that aside, Alvin played a fairly pivotal role early on.
