Re: Terryl Givens: The Book of Abraham is Fine; the Problem
Most of Givens' arguments boil down to: God is mixing things up a bit so that we can "exercise faith," the assumption being that exercising faith in a correct, yet unknowable fact is a virtue. So we should stick with a belief that may not make a lot of sense to us, since God wants us to p...

-peon member full-tithe and temple; most likely to really think it's true. Most likely to apostatize over information on the internet rather than offence by bishop or not feeling accepted by ward. Will often leave even if it tears apart family because the truth matters that much, but this may be a ...

Maybe it's just petty intra-quorum alliances. Nelson and Oaks were appointed at the same time, as Kimball's last coherent act. Maybe they are buddies. Maybe they resent being passed over for FP gigs in favor of junior apostles. Nelson and Oaks have probably been scoffing at Uchtdorf all these years....

Re: All or Nothing Mentality
When other Christians ask me why I thew out the baby with the bathwater upon rejecting Mormonism, I ask them to consider a similar situation. Suppose you find out that Jesus was not the Christ. Either he was just a man, or else he never existed all. Regardless, he was never your Lord, God, and Savio...

Re: New thoughts on Boyd Packer's "Salt Story."
Packer's story is essentially an illustration of a common church teaching, "spiritual truths must be understood spiritually." I've heard other Christians say "spiritual things are spiritually discerned." You see, the church's truth claims conveniently include their own method for...

Re: Leaks Confirm Seventies "assist" with Local Discipline
What is most interesting is how this implies stake presidents are inclined to leave apostates alone, but are being poked by the GA's to have more courts. "10- Stake presidents and bishops who are unwilling to address disciplinary matters are subject to being released," and "17- A dis...

Re: Church spends $35 million on printers manuscript.
The fact is, the money to buy the "artifact" was donated by private individuals. Your question would be better asked of the folks that donated the funds to make this purchase for the church. Aren't all tithes donated by private individuals? How do we know that the donors of this particula...

Re: Circular windows, how could Joseph Smith have known...
This is the dumbest thing I've ever read. Even as a faith promoting story, it's missing the punchline. There is supposed to be a final line with some kind of exterior vindication of the choice of circular windows. Sometime that in hindsight proves he was right all along. How the round windows made e...
