Was Lyra named after the heroine in the His Dark Materials novel series?

Re: Lyra Jeffries LaPan Nata Est!

Thank you everyone! We've had a lot of ups and downs this week (she had a collapsed lung on Tuesday night, they were calling us all night as they tried a few different things to relieve it and eventually something worked), but she still has a good prognosis. She started receiving feedings yesterday ...

Lyra Jeffries LaPan Nata Est!

Lyra Jeffries LaPan, born 5/17/2020 at 9:27 PM 7 lbs. 15 oz., 19 in. Labor induced at 37 weeks due to preeclampsia; she probably would have been as huge as her big brother if she'd been able to go to term. She has a lot of pale blonde hair, which really surprised us. (My other two were mostly baldie...

Re: China refutes Nelsons Shanghai temple announcement

Because we respect the laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, the Church does not send proselyting missionaries there; nor will we do so now. I suppose President Nelson is lucky that the actual church of Jesus Christ is less respectful of abusive, authoritarian governments when it ...

Re: CV-19 therapeutic drug trials

I read the r/Covid19 sub every day. There's usually discussion of the latest studies on drugs and treatments. Unfortunately most of these studies have been observational and not quality, randomized controlled trials. A lot of them have also only been about giving the drug to severely ill patients, b...

Re: Life Under Coronavirus

Update from me: I'm 34+3 today. I've been diagnosed with preeclampsia, moved to x2/wk monitoring, and given steroid shots to strengthen the baby's lungs in anticipation of early delivery. Outcomes for 34-37 week preemies are generally very good, so I'm not panicking, but this is new territory for me...

Re: Life Under Coronavirus

I'd like to see a study of HCQ, HCQ+Azy, and HCQ+zinc done in patients early in the disease. Lots of antivirals are only effective if given early, but most of the studies showing little effect for HCQ are being done on patients who are already hospitalized. In other news, looks like my suburb in Coo...

Re: 45% of women and it is hard not to care

I'm 38 years old and have had two sexual partners my entire life.

But even when I was single after the divorce (ages 32-35) and that rare thirty-something who'd only had one sexual partner, I wouldn't have dated a guy who was fixated on this. It's not a healthy mindset to have.

Re: The Handmaid's Tale

The first season is one of the most perfect adaptations of a book that I've ever seen.

The second season was decent.

The third season had ADHD.
