Re: David Achuleta will not follow the counsel of the prophet

David could make a big splash by going. Shawn Bradley was highly effective as a PR missionary for the church precisely for having delayed his career to go. It actually helped that the world had not yet seen how ineffectual he would be in the NBA. But, I suppose, there is a "fame" out after...

Re: Are 95% of us suffering from some mass delusion?

Belief in the potential for a higher power as the explanation for what we do not and cannot explain is not delusional, IMHO. Unwavering acceptance of a particular construction of the unknowable is, if not delusional, closed minded. Edited to add: Dogmatically rejecting the possibility of a higher po...

Good thing he told us that we should love homosexuals. I wasn't sure whether I was supposed to hate them or not.

Re: Growing up in the Mormon Church - Good/Bad thing?

The vast majority of my LDS friends were not materially different behaviorally than their non-LDS counterparts, they just felt more guilt about the things they did. How do you know they felt more guilt? I grew up in Toronto. We, LDS, were few in number and looked forward to dances, youth conference...
