Re: I've been Sethbagged!
Some time ago, a poster known as Sethbag had stumbled upon some old books from a class he took with legendary Hugh Nibley. It was a non-credit course that focused on LDS topics and of course he wanted nothing to do with them, so he offered them up to anyone who wanted them. …He also took the time t...

Re: What the Heck is Jonathan Dunham Talking About?
My last post from the Jonathan Dunham diary drew such informative commentary from folks like George Miller that I thought I might post another puzzling excerpt and see if anyone has any insights. Near as I can guess, this document probably contains assorted notes from the Kirtland School of the Pro...

The Erotic Apologist wrote:Didn't Joseph Smith also try to swing a right-of-way deal with the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, by buying up a lot of empty real estate around Kirtland?
Do you have any more information on this? That sounds like a fascinating little bit of history.

Re: An interesting page from the Jonathan Dunham journal
The J. Adams here is most likely James Adams the Springfield judge, Mormon convert, and business partner of Joseph Smith. They both went in on a venture to buy a steam boat which both ferried people from the Iowa side of the river to the Illinois side and up and down the river. We know that much of...

Re: An interesting page from the Jonathan Dunham journal
Celestial Kingdom I think these entries are interesting and I have some ideas on what may be happening, at least on some entries in particular. 1. Paid J Smith.. for J Adams this 9th of Dec.. [1841] cash - $. 7..62 2. Bot of Peter Shirts <$5.50> 1 skift for Ferrying this 18. day of Nov. 1841[?] for ...

Additionally, Mother Smith admitted in her autobiography that the Smith family thought of their magic as Masonic in nature. If anyone has a cite on this, please post it. Here is the citation. If you would like a further explanation on why I said what I did then please contact me backchannel. Now I ...

Agreed ... And I would add he is one the most honest, thorough, and compassionate researchers I know.

I don't however agree with his conclusions about the items he claims as being considered as relics within some Nephite Ark of the Covenant inside their replica of Solomon's Temple. Maybe when they find that long lost Nephite temple, but maybe if the LDS Church gets Indiana Jones on the case they mi...

Re: The Prophet's Alphabet
That thread over there is an object lesson in the difference between scholarship and whatever it is Wade and Will are doing. You and George lay out a case based on clear and obvious evidence, which Wade consistently misunderstands. Will chimes in with nothing more than the usual ad hominem, but, yo...
