Re: The Interpreter; Bayes Theorem; Nephites and Mayans

Speaking of Bayes theory and the mention of pearls in the Book of Mormon, you know where pearls were definitely known and worn as costly apparel? Ancient Italy. m In ancient Rome, a pearl was a unio, for unique, as no two were exactly alike. Pliny the Elder (AD 23–79) noted that pearls occupied “the...

Re: The Interpreter; Bayes Theorem; Nephites and Mayans

Richard, You are welcome to do this test of the King James version of the Bible versus The Maya. I would be interested in the results. But to make it a good comparison with our work, you would have to test claims of fact in both books. For example, the fact that both the Maya and the New Testament ...

Re: The Interpreter; Bayes Theorem; Nephites and Mayans

I find it remarkable that the author of Exodus was able to correctly describe a volcanic eruption from the point of view of the person experiencing it.

So we have another piece of evidence consistent with the Egyptian captivity of the Israelites taking place in ancient Mesoamerica.

Re: The Interpreter; Bayes Theorem; Nephites and Mayans

I finally sat back over a couple of tacos last night and began to read the actual article. In the Book of Mormon we read: Book of Mormon: There shall come over the whole earth an intense darkness lasting three days and three nights. Nothing can be seen, and the air will be laden with pestilence whi...

Re: The Millennials simplified.

As much as I'm enjoying Moinmoin's mixed metaphors---we have to separate the wheat from the chaff so we can cull the herd of the barnacles on the ship---I can't help but notice how he repeatedly uses "Mormon" as a noun and an adjective, even though the next in line to die in the church hie...

Re: The Millennials simplified.

Mormon intellectuals This, like "testimony," is a meaningless expression that Moinmoin is throwing around to make gibberish appear worthy of being taken seriously. LOL in particular at the nobility of the freedom to be irrelevant, which apparently is one of the characteristics of whatever...

Re: Riess debunks Oaks call for younger marrieds & more kids

I, for one, am grateful to President Dallin H. Oaks and his wife, Sister Kristen Meredith McMain Oaks, for leading by example to show the youth that marriage is about having children.

Re: Mormon Interpreter Guns for the MI

/snip One of my true delights is to see MrStakhanovite offer a scholarly analysis of ChurchofJESUSCHRISTofLatterdaySaintsist apologetics. It reminds me of nothing so much as a scholar of film theory giving a detailed and serious analysis of Manos: The Hands of Fate . Or the facially sincere and in-...

Re: Mormon Interpreter Guns for the MI

My first impression was that this Peterson thing is a case of Star Wars vs. Star Trek: a debate of no value to anyone but the participants, and even for them the only value to be derived is the mere fact that there is a debate at all. Professor Symmachus, in the spirit of diversity and academic fre...
