I imagine that, if there's not already, at some point the Church is going to have to amend the Handbook to clarify WoW and medical marijuana. I can see some older-gen, traditionalist bishops denying temple recommends over this.Doctor CamNC4Me wrote: ↑Thu Jun 10, 2021 5:44 pmIt’ll be interesting to see how many Mormons end up with a MM card.

How the Mormon Church Opposed, and then Supported, Medical Marijuana in Utah
Found this Politico article documenting how the Church came around to a circumscribed medical marijuana bill in Utah really interesting. Particularly interesting is how the change of heart is attributed to polling showing overwhelming public support among Utahns. The dynamic here is interesting beca...

Re: Long-lost Infants on Thrones smackdown of John Dehlin unearthed
I've listened to both MS and I O T but don't remember ever hearing this particular episode. Thanks for sharing. Did John ever respond anywhere to the questions asked of him in the aforementioned open letter?

Re: Ideological Fault Lines in (Post-)Mormonism
There's a conservative fear that letting previously excluded people into power means giving power to incompetent people. This fear assumes that the traditional barriers are simply standards of competence. Relatedly, there's a conservative fear that previously excluded groups obtaining power will re...

Re: Ideological Fault Lines in (Post-)Mormonism
Politics is a game of pragmatism. Ideological entrenchment may work in specific districts (like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's), but it simply doesn't work at the federal level in terms of gaining and retaining power. I hear you. I'd say apart from the most left leaning faction of Congress, democrats a...

Re: Ideological Fault Lines in (Post-)Mormonism
I have noticed, however, that there is a fair amount of internal strife between people from the center to the left. A lot of name calling and virtue signaling. In saying that I am not suggesting that people on the right don’t have their versions of the same. Still, I don’t remember things being so ...

Re: Ideological Faultlines in (Post-)Mormonism
One thing I would like to see is a lot less political discussion in the religious sphere. I recall my disaffection started at the same time I became increasingly aware of the Republicanism that was obtrusive in LDS meetings. Now, Democrats are starting to match Republicans in bringing the political...

Re: Ideological Faultlines in (Post-)Mormonism
The only way to win Conservative hearts and minds is through imagery that appeals to their sense of individualism. The biggest fail Liberals repeat when engaging Conservatives is to be wordy - you literally lose their attention after a sentence or two. This rings so true, and it's a truth that I th...

Re: You can't get married for time only in an LDS temple anymore
This feels like it was a long time coming . As more and more families have siblings/parents/relatives who fall away, the pressure to allow families to view the marriage ceremony has been growing, in my opinion. I live far away from Utah, and the amount of non-Mormons at Mormon weddings has always be...

Re: Problematic John Dehlin, a short list
I again come back to the context of the post on this one. John proactively asked for examples of how ex-Mormon men could treat women better. This seems just about the most appropriate place to share something like this: on a post asking for these types of examples of bad behavior. If ever there was ...
