Re: "Which, being interpreted"
"Which being interpreted" is just an old fashioned way of informing the reader of a translated word or phrase which may be more elegantly expressed in the original language. There are plenty of legitimate used of this in translation such as "joie de vivre" or "schadenfreude....

"Which, being interpreted"
A lesser noticed problem with the Book of Mormon that helps you know it is fake is its persistent usage of "which being interpreted" or synonyms for that. That phrase itself isn't the giveaway, it's the manner in which it is used. A normal, realistic usage of a foreign word in this type of...

Re: Why MDB is smashing fun
It is very telling that Simon cannot even participate in a positive thread like this without publicly flinging his feces at everyone.

Heartily agreed. Kudos to the mods and Shades for the idea.

Re: The Fascination with the Scratch Expose
Kishkumen is very right. Where DCP was useful in comparison to a non-Mormon expert on the faith is that he is not interested in impugning his own religion and so therefore would not have volunteered certain inconvenient facts about Mormonism and its belief in personal revaluation which may have mad...

Re: The Fascination with the Scratch Expose
I personally don't think DCP did anything illegal. I think, instead, that he was being the paranoid basketcase that he usually is, and that he flipped his lid and very aggressively demanded censorship of the threads. (I believe it was Mike Reed's remarks that pushed him over the edge, though I coul...

Re: Poll: Should Beavis change his avatar?
I'm not sure BC was drawing a comparison between his avatar and religious beliefs. Just that Nightlion had delivered an ultimatum about BC, while no one, who might be offended at Nightlion's claims, had done so. That is exactly what I was doing. People on this board, including TBMs and Nightlion, t...

Re: Confessions of a former McConkite
The McConkieite faction of Mormonism has definitely lost favor within the church. I believe that Gordon Hinckley was the main person responsible for it. He was always ashamed of the true gospel of Christ in contrast to JFS, BMK, and ETB. Given the very low esteem that this crew held for the "ps...

Re: Poll: Should Beavis change his avatar?
Here's what I think: I think this is one of those pictures that someone really thought was depicting a serious Christian message but ended up being unintentionally hilarious. I don't know who painted this or why, or I wouldn't be asking. But it seems to me that the artist wanted to show that when w...

Re: An ode to Kishkumen
I don't approve of the posting of Simon's picture, however he has earned himself no goodwill by his stalkerish actions toward Kishkumen in this thread. ETA: And toward others previously. I think Scratch is different than Simon because he is focusing more on organizational stuff than on personal stuf...
