Thread About Dr. Peterson, his avatars specifically

Dr. Peterson,

Here on mDiscussions, your avatar is of a suave, debonair man. On mDialogue, you have a sinister, dark-side character. Is there a reason for the difference? Does each avatar evoke the type of image you want readers of the respective mBoards to attribute to you?

Re: Mormon History and Mormon Belief

God did not pronounce all other faiths as false. Simon, here is what it says in the canonised version of the First Vision: I was answered that I must join none of them, for they were all wrong ; and the Personage who addressed me said that all their creeds were an abomination in his sight; that tho...

Re: Mormon History and Mormon Belief

And granted, the Fist Vision includes what some Christians view as criticism, but does that really necessitate 180 years of attacks? Are you suggesting that the First Vision is passé or now irrelevant, and so its claim that God pronounced all other faiths as false no longer counts? Do you not consi...

Re: Books I Haven't Read 1: The Vision of the Annointed

Note that the CRA ("exotic" loans) is understood as one major precipitating factor in the housing meltdown, but not the only one. What kind of passive voice is that? Is understood by whom? Everything I've read from mainstream economic sources regulates the CRA to a very minor role in the ...

Re: Books I Haven't Read 1: The Vision of the Annointed

I should also point out that the original interstate highway system was not intend, except perhaps indirectly, to accelerate private economic activity. Its was part of the Cold War era preparations for a potential nuclear attack by the Soviet Union, in which massive quantities of military equipment...

Re: For Droopy: Skousen and the Tyranny of Judicial Review

Socrates-- As with most anti-intellectual leftists who have been raised on a steady diet of public school pabulum, you are confusing the issue. You seem to think that the reasoning behind a court decision is what matters and what justifies the result, under the assumption that this has been a princ...

Re: For Droopy: Skousen and the Tyranny of Judicial Review

Mr. J, do you agree with judicial activism when it essentially writes out of the Constitution (the social compact between the people and its government on how much power that government shall have) limits that were expressly placed on that governmental power? For example, Wickard v. Filburn , 1941. ...

Re: Books I Haven't Read 1: The Vision of the Annointed

Sowell essentially said that in principle, of course government can create wealth, and the bridge story is an example of how it is possible. He totally conceded the point. He said that in practice the government rarely does create wealth, and went on a tangent about how in my example, the governmen...

Re: Books I Haven't Read 1: The Vision of the Annointed

I wish there were a study to determine what percentage of foreclosures come from minorities, because in my experience the minorities are the ones most likely to keep their homes. Actually, there is such a study, and its findings do not bear out the politically correct assertions made in this thread...
