Re: TR revoked for #metoo apostasy

http://kutv.com/news/local/church-removes-womans-temple-recommend-after-refusing-keep-quiet-about-her-divorce Not sure how I feel about this. I think I disagree with everybody, but if I have to choose sides I think I side with the stake president on this. Thoughts? In context this woman was stirrin...

Re: Literally in the Image of God

But I would say that we ought to be careful and/or more exact in defining "physical being". I'm sure that we would agree that we're not referring to carbon based humanoids such as ourselves. I don't see any reason to rule that out. By my reading, Joseph Smith's descriptions of God would f...

Re: Literally in the Image of God

MG, there's really not a contradiction between "flesh and bone" and "being of light" as long as you posit that a physical being can be glowy. I mean, I can say my lamp has a "bulb of light" but that doesn't mean light bulbs don't have a physical form. I'm not sure why y...

Re: If You Can Read This Sentence, I Can Prove God Exists

God of the Gaps fallacies are a dime a dozen among apologists, but most of them don't come right out and say that's what they're arguing. Give that guy props for transparency, I guess.

Re: LDS Author Robert Millet Writes Another One!

Description from the Deseret Book page: Exercising faith isn't always easy to do. In a world where religion is being pushed to the margins of society, we find loyalty to scriptural teachings, adherence to time-honored values, and belief in absolute truths in short supply. When respected religious ed...

Re: BYU faculty and the Book of Mormon

You bring up an important point. Are J.F. McConkie and Craig Ostler still around to answer it, or have they gone the way of all flesh? Craig Ostler is fairly young and still teaching at BYU: https://rsc.byu.edu/authors/ostler-craig-james Joseph Fielding McConkie died in 2013 at the age of 72.

Re: The Top Ten Happenings in Mopologetics, 2017

Good to see the annual endcap of the study of Mopologetics living up to its expected high standards. I recently finished reading through the Top Ten Happenings threads of all the past years it's been done, and they're always a hoot. I toast Doctor Scratch for his commitment to increasing our underst...

Re: Mormonism and Christianity, Inferior Philosophies?

Yes, my childhood was in the '70s. I don't think the mainstreaming really picked up steam until the late '80s or early '90s. That's my recollection from my own point of view, at any rate. That utterly sinks a personal theory that I'd been developing that the growth of the Mormon Church from the 60s...

Re: The WLC/SC "Something From Nothing" Cosmology Thread

I just want to pop in and say that this thread is very informative. DrW's explanations and links about quantum field theory have been especially helpful to me. I may not get the math, but when you explain the underlying concepts like that it's much more comprehensible. So thanks!
