Re: Leaking church documents on Reddit

Here's his personal note (that's all I've had time to read so far...some F-bombs in there, so if that offends, don't read ): So, I want to say a couple of things. First, I timed this perfectly because the Council of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve are going to meet this morning. Secon...

Re: Return of "The Doink": What's at Stake in Post-Mopologet

We seem to find a lot of "driving the doubters off the message boards" and so I think the problem is anger is at the root of the tree. and if that's the case, we can expect orthodoxy to be defined such that there will be plenty of infractions, and plenty of work to do bringing the hatchet...

Re: Return of "The Doink": What's at Stake in Post-Mopologet

The meat of the talk is a long series of deconstructions of "Liberal" LDS writers, all of whom are advocating Christlike discipleship: treating others with kindness and respect; being open to alternative points of view; and perhaps most pointedly, not seeking to drive people out of the Ch...

As the good Reverend said, Mopologetics is indeed about making Mormonism plausible, regardless of how improbable that is. Nearly all Mopologetics I've read are essentially some combination of (i) an argument that opens a window of possibility, and (ii) some form of obfuscation to try and distract th...

Re: Response to CES Letter

It doesn't seem to matter when you learn about these issues, somehow you are always supposed to have already known about them. “When a thing is new, people say: ‘It is not true.’ Later, when its truth becomes obvious, they say: ‘It is not important.’ Finally, when its importance cannot be denied, t...

Re: Response to CES Letter

The CES letter is tailor-made for responses like this. It is not my cup of tea, as I've said here before. That said, the author has succumbed to the all-too-common belief of Mormon apologists that snark and arrogance will make their arguments stronger. I suppose I can't blame them since in a few cas...

Re: CES Letter Author Summoned to Court of Love

I've known Jeremy on Facebook and Reddit since before the CES letter was first published. The CES letter came about because Jeremy's grandfather had a a friend who was a CES director that was willing to answer Jeremy's questions. Jeremy loved his grandfather, and wanted to show him that he had done ...

Re: Seth Payne Announces Resignation

I think a lot of members and a strong majority of people in the upper church hierarchy don't consider someone like Seth a loss at all. The almost gleeful responses over this that I am seeing from some Mormons over the pain and suffering being suffered by LGBT Mormons and their progressive allies has...
