Re: Vogel's new video response to John Gee
I just uploaded a new video response to John Gee. Let me know what you think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEfSaOvxl7g Dan, I thought you did a great job of evaluating each of Gee's claims, one by one, and demonstrating exactly how each one was misleading. Thanks for taking the time to put this ...

Re: The blind ghost
Well. The best analogy I could make is to think of the 4th dimension as a reservoir. It's a nice and tidy lake a mile wide, 5 miles long, a 1,000 feet deep, at 5,000 feet of elevation. It's all contained in its own spot. Until the dam breaks (vacuum decay). Then it's an inevitable event where it go...

Re: Where did the Mormon God have sex with 14 year old Mary?
This is literally a discussion about an event that never happened. To be honest, a much more reprehensive act is Smith's diddling Fanny, at least we know that really happened. If God really did cause Mary to be pregnant, the ole fashioned way or otherwise, we are all screwed anyways. I mean who rea...

Re: Where did the Mormon God have sex with 14 year old Mary?
It’s an important enough doctrine that several church presidents have publicly hammered it home to the members. Why are the implications of the doctrine mod worthy? If there is any unease about it then surely it’s an indication that there is something wrong with this Mormon teaching, and it’s worth...

Re: The blind ghost
Anyone up for a little science fiction? Or, as some would probably say, science fantasy. Physicalism posits that particles rule. Particles and forces are all that really matter and the phenomenon of consciousness is just a result of the mindless interaction of particles. All quite maybe true, but -...

Re: The blind ghost
I love Calvin and Hobbes! In my science fantasy there will come a time when humans will be able to continually renew their cells through some as yet unknown mechanism, possibly with DNA modification and targeting degenerative and maligmant cells with immunotherapy. This process could combine with b...

Re: The blind ghost
The Ship of Theseus is a hypothetical ship in which every part and plank had been replaced at one time or another over many years. It nonetheless remained Theseus's ship the whole time, and everyone would have agreed that in all that time he had only had that one same old ship, which kept getting r...

Re: The blind ghost
I think Sam Harris makes a good argument when he points out that we know the function of various parts of the brain by what functions we lose when each part is damaged or destroyed. There is some plasticity when the brain has a chance to recover but the basic function never really completely recover...
