Re: I can no longer remain silent...

In recent years, the Church has added controversial content on the official church website lds.org, in an effort towards more transparency regarding its history. Much of this information is new to me, let alone shocking. Particularly, that the founder Joseph Smith: -Married multiple women -As young...

Re: Petersen claims First Vision known about in 1827.

Inexplicably, Peterson fails to support his assertions with any references... I think he may be referring to stories published in Rochester in 1829 that allude to an 1827 vision: http://www.sidneyrigdon.com/dbroadhu/ny/miscNYSf.htm (for probably the umpteenth time, link shared with maximum gratitud...

Re: Calling "BS" on DCP's Buckley Story

I'm surprised no one raised this in the comments to his story. If confronted, I'm sure he'd admit that he was with this other student(s) when he picked up Buckley.

Re: Scholarship on Ancient Book of Mormon Declines

So either people have the requisite training but choose not to use it for this purpose or they bring their training to bear in only a very selective, limited, uncritical, and one-sided fashion.

I'm guessing there's other possibilities.

Re: Nu Skin CEO to serve as Mission President

I have a question wrote:
Nu Skin Enterprises Inc. said Wednesday that Chief Executive and President Truman Hunt will leave the company in mid-2017, after about 17 years in the role, to take a three-year leadership assignment with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Re: Mormonstories - Jesse Stay

I've noticed that several months ago when I googled "Mormon discussions" this site was almost always first. For the last little while it's always Mormon Discussion Podcast - Leading With FaithMormon Discussion ... and Bill Reel Twitter, with this site always being 3rd.

Re: Stephen Bloor's excommunication - Problems

For me, as a friend of Steve, I know him to have been a pretty superb and loving bishop, and a man of integrity. It would have been nice if the bishop had told him it was a formal disciplinary council rather than a meeting to discuss his membership. Remember, the bishop told him explicitly that it ...

Seems like she was just trying to help you out. A simple thanks and explanation for why she might want to ring the doorbell next time seems sufficient.

Re: Stephen Bloor's excommunication - Problems

Oh for goodness sake. Have you read p 113 of the CHI? Steve absolutely had excommunication coming. He is a classic apostate. He still had a right to attend an excommunication hearing which was unambiguously presented to him as such, and to call witnesses in his defence. Have you read page 113 yes o...

Re: Stephen Bloor's excommunication - Problems

He'd have a lot stronger argument if he had showed up. If he didn't care enough to show up to the meeting I'm not sure why he cares now, assuming he even cares about it at this point. Blaming the bishop is a weak cop-out and makes him look pretty stupid. Own it first and go from there.
