Re: Gina Colvin is the next target
Johannes, do you minister in the UK! That would be cool. I'm afraid I am a believer in Jesus and his goodness, but am in exile in terms of any institutionalised religion. Understood, Mary. There's an old saying along the lines of "I'm not a member of any organised religion, I'm an Anglican&quo...

Re: The Bill Reel Thread on MD&D is Disgusting
IHAQ is right. Financial pressure will drive change. Threats to withhold donations are not uncommon in mainstream churches at a local level, and (sadly) they do have an effect. I'm sure such threats would be even more effective in a church which has institutionalised tithing as part of its operation...

Re: Gina Colvin is the next target
To be fair, most modern academics don't do well "as being coherent". Writing badly seems to be almost a prerequisite for a position in higher education these days.

Re: Any guess if Bill Reel’s Disciplinary Council was record
I can well believe what you say, Craig. The whole process sounds utterly harrowing - matters for private spiritual or psychotherapeutic couselling being played out in front of a committee of local lawyers and small businessmen. Can I ask you a couple of questions, from your knowledge of these things...

Re: Bokovoy: Half of DCP's Pay Comes from the Maxwell Instit
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I just don't see why this is a problem. If, say, a Presbyterian academic was paid by a Presbyterian college to write apologetic books and articles, no-one would care. Why is it any different with Dr Peterson? What's wrong with being paid to do apologetics? ...

Re: Gina Colvin is the next target
For what it's worth, my family were never excommunicated from the Church of England for being baptized Mormon. Oh that the church could be as magnanimous. It is possible in theory for an Anglican to be excommunicated, but in over 30 years of ministry I have never once heard of it happening (at leas...

Re: Abuse of Ancient History by New Testament Scholars
And on this: But how sure should we really be that the end result of this chain of copying was an accurate account of what really happened a thousand years before? How unlikely is it that someone made an honest mistake, somewhere along the line of recopying, and mistook a rumor or urban legend for g...

Re: Abuse of Ancient History by New Testament Scholars
What an interesting thread. Kish , a couple of things. First, I wouldn't associate this fellow Licona's musings on Caesar's assassination with "New Testament scholars". THis is the sort of thing that you encounter in pop apologetics, not in serious mainstream scholarship. Second, you might...

Re: Counterfeit Religion
That's a good question, Johannes. But likely one with a very individual answer for each who asks it. Is this worth the investment of time? Well, allow me to venture a guess that it is not worth it to you. You may be right, reverend sir. One has priorities, and I haven't even properly read Brooke ye...
