Re: Anubis in Facsimile No. 3 and Mormon Deception

Ah, what a wicked web we weave when we first practice to deceive.

Re: Beards

Imagine an Orthodox Jewish young man with long sidelocks and that is probably much closer to what Jesus actually looked like than the fair-haired, blue-eyed chap we see in many paintings.

Re: LDS Past Stance Against Christianity

Curiously, there was not a single Amish participant at the 1893 World Congress of Religions. I rather think that they were not in the remotest bit interested in mingling with the "English" there.

Re: First Black Apostle?

I smiled when I read the title of this thread. I did a bit of research on Ahmad S. Corbitt. First, he was given an Islamic name at birth - Ahmad is one version for Mohammed and his middle name, Salaam, is also very popular with Muslims. It means peace. It would seem that his father was probably a me...

Re: Visit with Missionaries and the issue of Racist Ideas in the LDS Chuch

I like the idea of the Nephite mafia in dark sharkskin suits. This reminds me of the Islamic interpretation of jihad. Both the Q'ran and the Hadith profusely discuss the rules and necessity for warfare, sometimes in very graphic form. Today, however, some Sunni imams have toned it down considerably ...

Re: The significance of the Mormon Temple Earthquake

To provide a bit of perspective here, as many may recall, on August 23, 2011 there was a magnitude 5.8 earthquake in Washington, D. C. which, among many things, dislodged some stones from the upper regions of the National Cathedral (Episcopal). Various individuals have determined various divine reas...

Re: “King Pharaoh, whose name is given in the characters above his head”

Well, I am one of those folks here who is not LDS and when I first encountered the Book of Abraham I thought it was nonsense. I still do and find it bizarre that it remains so deeply engrained within the LDS that attempts are still being made to defend it. It’s important to point out that it’s the ...

Re: Dallin H. Oaks Finally Issues An Apology

I have a client who was a supervisor at the Nauvoo, Illinois restoration. Several years ago his son committed suicide because of the LDS stance on his sexuality. This "apology" will never replace the life of this young man, much less all the grief and torment my client and his family had to endure.

Well, I am one of those folks here who is not LDS and when I first encountered the Book of Abraham I thought it was nonsense.
