Re: Theology: Not Convinced
"I am happy to say that I argued for a similar point" Maybe, but the agendas behind the arguments are totally different. In one instance, the point is to make room for everyone. In the other, it's make room for my niche views so they have time to take root and eventually overrun the rest of the field.

Re: Mormon hippie approach
This is a pretty standard response and F&T statement. It's no more hippie than a testimony has ever been. In fact, it's so standard that I question whether those who made the statement really believe it. I'm not saying they don't believe the Church, but I think statements like this are woven togethe...

Re: You're Wrong
But hey! Free speech means no-one should call you out whatever nonsense you spout, doesn't it? And let's also not forget that Ajax is the second to last person in the world to care about abortion anyway. He cares slightly more than my right-wing friend does. Ajax cares about his bottom line and tha...

Re: This is fun - new UFO disclosure
I doubt it will go anywhere except circle as material for UFO podcasters. Suppose the military does have a bunch of saucers and this guy's disclosure calls out all the right people and is correct about the locations. Suppose congress goes all in to investigate. Well, all the people in the backroom h...

Re: Theology: Not Convinced
Most Christians don't think salvation is obtain by ivory tower-ism either, it's obtained by the grace of Jesus transforming the sinner into a new creature. Even Jonathan Edwards said that election can't be determined by outward characteristics or confessions of faith, the elect of God could technica...

Re: DCP is proudly celebrating Fidelity Month
Yeah. As someone put it: "Gay pride was not born of a need to celebrate being gay, but our right to exist without persecution. So instead of wondering why there isn’t a straight pride parade, be thankful you don’t need one." I think that nails it. DCP knows he's being obtuse; he knows there are dif...

Re: Bible Ban in Utah Schools
I don't have enough to predict where all this is headed, but one thing is certain, the last place an unhinged Trump supporter has any business being is a library. Unless it's to throw a tantrum about their values, they wouldn't waste five minutes doing what most people do at libraries. And so, in th...

Re: Jesus didn't die for the Hippie
The biggest impact of the Jesus Movement was on evangelical worship music. It pretty much changed evangelical worship music forever, from hymns to contemporary stuff with drums and guitars. Love Song was essentially the first contemporary Christian music act. There was no equivalent shift in Mormon...

Re: Seminary Teacher Schools Church Historian!
If the Locke quote causes McKay to doubt his own beliefs, maybe McKay can deploy it against Joe to make Joe doubt his beliefs. Sure, his own revelation might not be true, but everyone else's might not be true, either. (Of course it doesn't work because Joe's beliefs aren't based on revelation, but ...

Jesus didn't die for the Hippie
Out on the Internet yonder, a blogger writes: Several friends had recommended The Jesus Revolution to me, and I did, in fact, enjoy it. But I have to admit that it left me unsatisfied. The idea (at least in its first hour) seems to have been that the “Jesus Revolution,” the “Jesus People,” would hea...
