Re: Gemli explains...
Some Mormons have surely distilled some good things out of Joseph Smith's scam, and I can believe that an enlightened form of Mormonism might be as wise as any religion—perhaps all the more so for recognizing weaknesses in its founder. I'm not inclined to defend conservative Mormon apologetics. Mor...

Re: Lds church is wrongly attacked for giving too little to charity....
hold on, I may have fell victim to Mopologist slight of hand. While some do feel the Church should do more charity, the argument is more often that like it's reported membership numbers, its the shameless self-trumpeting when in fact, when you dig into the details, it does as little as possible and ...

Re: Lds church is wrongly attacked for giving too little to charity....
I agree the church shouldn't be attacked for not doing enough charity. It should be attacked for having hundreds of billions of dollars while putting the screws to well-meaning members. Riding the backs of members for every spare cent and then turning it over to charity isn't admirable either. Maybe...

Re: Should one read Blum's book on psychic research?
What amazes me about the proprietor of this blog is how skeptical we're supposed to be of science while we can't be open-minded enough to the occult. It doesn't matter how repeated and controlled a scientific experiment is, it might be wrong, and we should trust nothing science says because the whol...

Re: Gemli explains...
The only point I might slightly disagree with is that it might be "much more effective to take the narrative at face value, and then look for the holes in the story," if only because once you've conceded angels, then the miracles angels can perform can be used by an apologist to explain away just a...

Re: I Can't Eye-Roll Hard Enough Over DCP's Latest
As Dan points out, "overwhelmingly, to be spread via homosexual sex", which meant Buckley and any other libertarian, Christian-value nut-job out there had zero investment in the well-being of homosexuals. Why not just let them destroy themselves? Consequences for sin. This is how Christians think. A...

Re: I Can't Eye-Roll Hard Enough Over DCP's Latest
You can certainly disagree with it, but to describe it as the "branding" of people he despised is a reprehensible caricature That's exactly what it is, branding people he despised, and anyone arguing otherwise knows they are lying. How ridiculous and dishonorable to defend the trash-heap of a human...

Re: Ideology, Religion, and Mormonism
Thanks for the though-provoking post, Reverend. Taking a step back, I think history is one of those subjects that naturally attracts ideologues, including those who yearn for a sacred past. Heck, weren't the ancients themselves already yearning for a sacred past? Isn't that the essence of scripture?...

Re: Lindsay Stirling?
I read the OP and I think there is a misunderstanding. You can go ahead and retract the resignation document that you just uploaded. There is no problem here. Back in our day, yes, there would have been an issue. It was important for LDS role models to dress and act chaste. Times have changed. Back ...

Even Ben Shapiro is now giving money to the Trump campaign now. wow, that's a real shock Ajax. Who would have guessed. Because Joe Biden has been a terrible president and his policies have done enormous damage to the US and the world. CFR -- Something other than Breitbart. You can't just say anythi...
