Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"
Hope you’re doing well, Shades. Thanks for all you do to keep the lights on around here. 🙂 You're welcome. My problems with Hales are similar. His conclusions regarding polygamy are especially problematic, because he draws every possible conclusion except the obvious one: Joseph's libido inspired h...

Re: Mormons Made Great Nazis
That's fine, but Herr Krause still doesn't qualify for Hitler's "inner circle," since they probably never met each other. To qualify as being in the inner circle, you and Hitler have to have each other on "speed dial," so to speak.

I'm going to have to ask for a reference for that claim. Simply being a member of the SS was a far, FAR cry from being in Hitler's inner circle.Everybody Wang Chung wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 12:46 amSome faithful Mormons even made it into Hitler's inner circle.

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"
In my experience, Hales is a frustrating interlocutor. I am sure he means well, and he is not a bad guy, but his tactics are pretty slippery. He straw mans his opponents, and his own arguments are recycled. His Joseph couldn’t have done this ergo God arguments are his usual go-to approach. My probl...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"
I imagine you read one or more books in 2023. Think of your favorite one of those. Now, think of a book you read 22 years earlier, back in 2001. When you read the more recent one, did it contaminate your memory of the one from 2001, to the point that you thought the former's principal characters ha...

Re: God was Sorry
Consistency and coherence are irrelevant to you? Weird that you didn't quote me. Almost like you're scared! :D Scared?? Umm, no. My response was directly after yours, so that plus the context made it clear to whom I was responding. That the primary events of the Book of Mormon took place in the Ame...

Re: Lars Nielsen's "How the Book of Mormon Came to Pass"
I think the connection is pretty obvious. Their knowledge of the Book of Mormon, which contains that information, was fresher and connected to a more sensational set of claims than their knowledge of Spalding’s work, which was tedious and connected to nothing remarkable at all, at least aside from ...
