Criticism of historical figures is a practically irresistible pastime.
In your opinion, is it ever justified? If so, who?
Seems justified at least when and to the extent that those historical figures are still being held up as authoritative.

Wild how people who have direct access to eternal truths, and divine morals and ethics tend to reliably just end up being products of their time.
Current prophetic leadership is the exception. Amiright?
We'll only know in 100 years, give or take. Until then ... follow the Prophet.

Re: Brigham Young doesn’t deserve his online criticism

"He wasn't perfect" has to be among the most meaningless arguments you could make in defense of someone, especially since no one has perfection as a standard. But I guess this puts Brigham Young in the same group as Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, DP, and believe or not, me, as well as the countless other...

Re: Brigham Young doesn’t deserve his online criticism

Lots of great information out there on men and women like Abraham Lincoln - 1809; Ralph Waldo Emerson - 1803; Harriet Beecher Stowe - 1811; William H. Seward - 1801; Elijah Parish Lovejoy -1803; James Polk - 1795 and on and on and on... all a product of their time. And then we have Joseph Smith Jr....

Re: Latter-day Saints have the highest rate of weekly church attendance

Some people will be very disappointed by this report: How many Mormons are actually in church every week in the US? I'm curious if he is related to Rulon and Clayne Pope, from the BYU Econ Department. I have fond memories of them and my time there. I especially enjoyed Professor Kearl, one of the b...

Re: Latter-day Saints have the highest rate of weekly church attendance

If you were to ask Marco Rubio his religion, he’d say Catholic (but might try to play up a Mormon past if campaigning for Utah voters). He wouldn’t have been counted in this survey as an inactive Mormon.

Re: Latter-day Saints have the highest rate of weekly church attendance

612 might be a sufficient sample size. But the survey probably relies on participants self-identifying as Mormon. Among that group, it wouldn’t surprise me to see a high activity rate. But that groups is also much smaller than what the church counts as being on its membership rolls. I haven’t attend...

Re: A Darkness Settles Over "6 Days in August"

STW: "Daniel do you have any updates on Six Days? Are you still hopeful for a theatrical release this summer?" We've done roughly 90% of the filming. Maybe more. But a big and complicated scene -- the opening scene, in fact -- remains to be done. We have it set up for late April. That will happen, ...

Re: LDS volunteer hours in decline

It would surprise me if the accounting here came down to something like: our ward has been assigned to fill four 4-hiur slots this Thursday night. Any volunteers? And then 16 hours is written down regardless od how many showed and how long they stayed. That wouldn’t necessary account for a decrease,...
