Is Jensen really someone to take seriously? He is, after all, only a Seventy, right?

Haha...The Salt Lake Tribune reports that he is expressing the concerns of the First Presidency (this may only apply to the less specific parts of his comments).

Re: Fireside cancelled because main speaker was Harry Reid

More from Elder Jensen: "The Democratic Party has in the last 20 years waned to the point where it really is almost not a factor in our political life," Jensen said. "There is a feeling that that is not healthy at all -- that as a state we suffer in different ways. But certainly any t...

Re: Fireside cancelled because main speaker was Harry Reid

Yes. You realized that the political left is antithetical to the gospel of Jesus Christ. That is why we have more evidence. However, repentence from the sin of political liberalism would have been the proper reaction as opposed to going inactive. I'm so confused...BC Space tells me that political l...

Re: Is Internet Mormonism Sustainable?

Besides its role in polemics, what is called "internet Mormonism" seems to amount to a recognition and believing tolerance of ambiguities in the LDS tradition. I think that it is harder to sell ambiguities to masses largely because, by definition, ambiguities are hard to wrap your head aro...

Re: The greatest sentence ever uttered/written.

My knowledge of Wittgenstein is limited to a reading about half of philosophical investigations and half of a commentary on him, so I probably don't have a great handle on what your saying. (It's been a while since I read your essay so I may not remember it correctly). But it sounds like your drawi...

Re: The greatest sentence ever uttered/written.

I was happy to see your apology. There is likely much to lose and little to gain in terms of professional credibility from rolling in the cyber-mud. I liked your article and I think it adds something important to the debate. Your idea of having a different definition of truth is interesting. I'm no...

Re: The greatest sentence ever uttered/written.

Seven beers, followed by two Scotches, and a thimble of Nyquil, and it's funny how sleep comes all on it's own. - Loran Could you post a link to where I made this statement? And, since I've been without alcohol for a year now, and have successfully walked away from alcohol addiction, I wonder just ...

Re: More Postmodernism, Mormon Style

Gadianton, Just to wrap things up quickly, in the end, I think we agree on more than we disagree. I can see the difference between the following: 1). One using more or less valid soundbites in order to make friendly observations in a casual online discussion. 2). One using these soundbites to attack...

Re: More Postmodernism, Mormon Style

I'm no expert on this literature, but having read some of the foundational works in cultural studies on the subject makes me think that this quibble over these terms being 'too simplistic' is kind of a red herring. Certain sound bytes reveal an empty hand to me and pluralism exhausting postmodernis...

Re: More Postmodernism, Mormon Style

I'm not abreast at all on academic discussions of these terms, I'd put a gun to my head before trying to keep up with the bleeding edge of postmodern discoursing. If you are in tune with the latest postmodern thinking and if you believe it all reduces to simplistic sound bytes regarding pluralism (...
