Re: Are skirts more pornographic than dress pants?
As far as I can tell, there isn't a dress code for the temple, either. I've worn pants to the temple more than once. Last time I was there for a friend's sealing and I wore a formal pants suit. I can see not having a dress code for those coming in and changing into temple clothes, but I was going al...

Re: Are skirts more pornographic than dress pants?
I wear pants to church, when I go, and I'm female. Yes, I get all kinds of dirty looks. Mostly from other women. There is no real dress code. Men don't have to wear a white shirt and tie, women don't have to wear dresses and pantyhose, but if you go against the socially acceptable norm you run the r...

Re: Tithing Allocation
Oh, and the segmented slip I think is just to make us feel better, or worse as the case may be. Or for the bishop to look at and decide if you paid a full tithe. Honestly, I think it would make so much more sense to just call it all tithing and be done with it. I could barely scrape together 10%, le...

Re: Tithing Allocation
mormonstories.org, the interview with Daymon Smith. The quote is in the fourth part of the series. I may have misunderstood him, but I don't think so. I listened to it several times. And yes, it is disturbing and unethical, but if you give your money willingly why should it matter where it is used? ...

Re: Anti material immoral?
Here's an old gem from Elder Mark E. Petersen (I first read it on my mission some 34 years ago, and its now on the Internet): In all earnestness, I appeal to you to study these scriptures and pray over them WITH AN OPEN MIND. Do not allow the teachings of the "Witnesses" to further blind ...

Re: Why give Joseph a sealed book?
Where is the first mention of the sealed portion of the plates? Of course, Joseph Smith was familiar with the Bible and it is likely that he knew the "book" in Isaiah is sealed. That small detail may have been a great way to make his book more biblically valid, especially for all those rel...

Re: Timing of Anthon Visit & 2 Nephi 27
Well, it appears that this meeting took place in February 1828 according to Stanley Kimball. He started translating the plates in April 1828 and started with the Book of Lehi. That makes it seem like Joseph translated a few characters and gave them to Martin, but none of the book was actually transl...

Re: Mormon church restates opposition to gay marriage - AP
All I'm saying is if you change one, just one, letter you get the church promoting polygamy as traditional marriage. You'd think they would be a little more specific. Or would they? Perhaps they're leaving the door open, cuz we all know that's the celestial order of marriage.

Re: Tithing Allocation
As I understood it, all the donated money goes into the general fund, be it tithing, missionary fund, humanitarian fund, whatever, and then it is allocated as the church sees fit. It would be great to be able to say where you wanted each dollar to go, but the church doesn't work that way. It's like ...

Re: Mormon church restates opposition to gay marriage - AP
"The doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is absolutely clear: Marriage is between one man and woman and is ordained of God," said the July 6 letter from church President Thomas S. Monson. Is this exactly how it was stated? Not "one man and one woman"? Well...
