Re: Should primary leaders be contacting minor children?
Mormon Perspective: an unbaptized child over the "age of accountability" is treated as an adult investigator. Their eternal life is at stake if they don't convert. Since the parents aren't being that example - the burden is placed upon the church; specifically primary leaders, home teacher...

I'm not sure what kids you are talking about - my three just pout and whine when they want something ;)

Re: Darwinism and the Moral Argument for God
"Not only do we not find any point to life laid out for us in nature, no objective basis for our moral principles, no correspondence between what we think is the moral law and the laws of nature … the emotions that we most treasure, our love for our wives and husbands and children, are made pos...

Re: Darwinism and the Moral Argument for God
It seems to me that the root of "morality" is a common mammalian trait; species which give live births, or carry their young in a marsupial sack, and feed their young with the production of milk. In many cases, there seems to be a genetic bond between the parent and offspring which makes t...

Darwinism and the Moral Argument for God
I read an interesting, albeit a tad rambling, blog on the Huffington Post regarding the argument of Morality being a reflection of God vs social evolution: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-ruse/darwinism-and-the-moral-a_b_657119.html I'm curious to know how many here believe that morality can o...

Re: Active non-believing Mormons?
Although I am not currently serving in a calling, I have no problem teaching the principles of the Church. I think they contain good values. I would probably be a little more careful of how I word my lessons; using more third-party disclaimers (the church teaches this, Joseph Smith taught that, etc....

Re: Active non-believing Mormons?
And what do you make of those people who did internalize the meaning and message of Jesus Christ and it was instrumental in their leaving? Excellent point. In my case, despite my doubts in the history and claims of Christianity and religion in general, I have remained active in the LDS church partl...

Re: Active non-believing Mormons?
Welcome to the board. I'm curious as to how you handle your situation. Do you have a calling? Children? Does your livelihood depend on you being a member of the church? Thank you for the welcome. I do not currently have a calling, having recently been released from the Young Men's Presidency. In th...

Active non-believing Mormons?
I am going to stay away from the word "atheist" because of the negative connotations that it brings, but I am curious to know if there is anyone on this board who has made a decision to continue actively attending church despite having lost their belief in god? It's a long story, but suffi...
