Re: Resurfaced memory - Lying Sunday School Teacher

No big deal...I get the suspicion. I also don't think it's worth accusing anyone of lying over. There is no question in my mind that he just straight up pretended he was the person in the manual. And to be honest, it doesn't really bother me. It didn't bother me then. Even at 10 years old, I kind o...

Re: Resurfaced memory - Lying Sunday School Teacher

Same story told twice. One by a guy who pretended the story was about him. Yes, this. The first guy basically memorized the story, and made it sound like the story typed in the lesson manual was about him. The second teacher (who I think was female) just read us the story from the manual. Of course...

What if these two grownups were on the same team?
You never now, right? And isn't it crazy that the text of the lesson manual actually matched their story perfect? Such a coincidence. The church must be true.

Resurfaced memory - Lying Sunday School Teacher

All the discussion of Nelson and his airplane and stories and exaggerations and lies has caused me to recall a memory, and I wish for all to receive it. I was probably about 10 years old. There was a knucklehead kid in our Sunday School class, and his dad came in to be our teacher. I vividly remembe...

Re: Fact Checking Nelson's "Doors Of Death" light aircraft near death experience

Here is the image of a perfectly airworthy (both engines operating) Navajo Chieftain from upthread after a "successful" (no injuries) landing in a farm field. The crew decided not to take a chance on flipping the aircraft and opted for a gear-up belly landing. The aircraft was a total loss. Hey, as...

Re: Fact Checking Nelson's "Doors Of Death" light aircraft near death experience

Interesting. Depending on the precise location of the rough engine and failure determination, I can see where it may have been closer to Fillmore vs Delta. I guess it would have depended on other factors, if a close push distance-wise between the two airports? Certainly. When making a precautionary...

Re: Fact Checking Nelson's "Doors Of Death" light aircraft near death experience

I see your point. Was Fillmore in operation in 1976? And if they were not at least halfway to SGU as the crow flies, then how do you explain the one and only "vivid" recollection Nelson has of pilot communication with passengers? Fillmore, Delta and Nephi airports were all built during ww2 to suppo...

Re: Fact Checking Nelson's "Doors Of Death" light aircraft near death experience

Dr. Moore, We're speculating about what "half-way" means right now. But it is my opinion, that if they were at the literal half way point (as you suggest), they probably would have diverted to Fillmore airport, as that would have been closer. Fillmore is also right next to the interstate, which make...

SUPER LONG - READ TO THE END BEFORE YOU ROAST ME - IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ THE WHOLE THING, JUST READ #13. Hey everyone, I've made quite a bit of progress in my efforts to compile the multiple different tellings of this story. So far I've compiled 12 different times this story has been told. Of th...
