Re: Priesthood ban was doctrine
I feel to state some of the reasons why I cannot be a practicing Mormon in full fellowship: 1) The Church is out of sympathy with people whose views on social and political questions might be described as “liberal” … Said my friend, “I’ve never met a Mormon who was pro-Labor.” 2) The economic view...

Civil War heroes compared to Church heroes and Villains
I think it’s significant that I was taught in my U.S. History classes that there were heroes and villains on both sides of the Civil War. It seems it would be enlightening to have been taught that in Church History as well. There was a little nuance in my Church History classes. People like Emma Smi...

Re: Waves of Pain and Sadness
Another separate reply for another thought: my condolences to all of you who have felt the rejection of family and tribe. I know others have suffered much worse than me. Condolences to you, Meadowchik. So far, I have not had to go through an experience such as your recent experience with your broth...

Re: Mormons seem confused who to WORSHIP
Mittens, over the years I've kind of learned to just ignore Bruce R. McConkie. Indeed, he has gone the way of most past leaders--their teachings must go down the memory hole if they do not match current teachings. A lot of LDS of my generation (baby boomer), including the leaders, have a slower lea...

Re: Priesthood ban was doctrine
The use of semantics (doctrine vs. policy) to justify the churches position on the ban is contravened by this evidence. Thanks for posting.

Re: The Plan of Salvation
Ironically, I read this while I was sitting on the John. Too much information? Thanks Mak, it cracked me up.

I’m guessing the unnamed book was “Mormon Doctrine.” by that McConkie fellow.

I could tell Sean my God is Truth and Love, and I think Sean Carroll would know where I'm coming from.

Re: BYU faculty and the Book of Mormon
I’m reminded of the “Randy Bott affair”. Bott was a BYU prof. who made the mistake of explaining to a reporter the “old” official reason why black men couldn’t hold the priesthood a few years ago. Considering that seer stones are less offensive than racial prejudice, Prof. Ostler probably won’t get ...
