Re: Doubt & Questioning a Contradiction to Faith?

I go back and forth on this. On the one hand, I think all religions can benefit from a moderating trend. Catholics aren’t burning heretics anymore. Muslims, by and large, aren’t massacring infidels. Mormons should some day stop excommunicating doubters and critics. But DCP often pushes back on this...

Re: Brigham Young doesn’t deserve his online criticism

Daniel is a very amateur historian, we should give him a break for unknowingly selectively quoting that passage. It’s not like he is a PhD scholar or anything. He probably had no idea the full context.

Re: Brigham Young doesn’t deserve his online criticism

As LDS historian Will Bagley once said on Radio West, it's almost impossible not to directly implicate Brigham Young in the Mountain Meadow Massacre because he was so intimately involved in directing and ordering so many other massacres. It's like DCP feigning ignorance about his constant plagiariz...

Re: Brigham Young doesn’t deserve his online criticism

"He wasn't perfect" has to be among the most meaningless arguments you could make in defense of someone, especially since no one has perfection as a standard. But I guess this puts Brigham Young in the same group as Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, DP, and believe or not, me, as well as the countless other...

Re: Brigham Young doesn’t deserve his online criticism

Lots of great information out there on men and women like Abraham Lincoln - 1809; Ralph Waldo Emerson - 1803; Harriet Beecher Stowe - 1811; William H. Seward - 1801; Elijah Parish Lovejoy -1803; James Polk - 1795 and on and on and on... all a product of their time. And then we have Joseph Smith Jr....

Brigham Young doesn’t deserve his online criticism

It’s become fashionable in recent years to demonize Brigham Young as a racist, even a vicious one — and, in some cases, essentially to forget that there was anything else to the man. I resist this. He wasn’t perfect, of course. Nor has any subsequent apostle or president of the Church been perfect....

Re: Elder Holland may not be Secondly Anointed?

you're far too kind, Reverend. I haven't been part of every thread, if Tim has been treated poorly then that's a shame, as he's one of my favorites. Unfortunately for the few believers, to the extent that other members recognize them as traditional believers, they become the customer service rep an...

Re: Doubt & Questioning a Contradiction to Faith?

So, we’re taking A.I.-generated texts seriously enough to start threads on now? Text produced by an advanced AI could be indistinguishable from that authored by a deity, hence exercising caution is recommended. This response was generated by an AI. As a large language model, I agree with Philo and ...
