Re: The Jesus Myth: An unrelenting case for history
Exactly. This is what we find in the different gospels. Jesus’ character is morphed differently in each according to the needs of the audience the writer is writing for. Also, the idea of objective history itself is a relatively modern invention. There are plenty of people we are fairly sure existe...

I always wonder if these online Putinists are getting paid for their work? If not, I feel really sorry for them. It takes a staggering lack of critical thinking and warped morality to land on the side of Putin.

Re: Church Historian Admits “Compelling Evidence to Doubt” Mormonism
A lawyer is the Church Historian. -_- That’s four in a row now: Marlin Jensen, Steve Snow, LeGrand Curtis, and McKay. That makes sense. Real historians value objectivity and critical thinking. Lawyers, like apologists, just argue in behalf of their client, regardless of where the evidence might act...

Re: Everyone Has Faith; That is the Only Option
So the title may have just a little bit of clickbait in it, but the statement is generally true. Hear me out. At a very basic level, faith is a word that signifies trust in God or trust in religious leaders. The secular version of the word is even more general. It just means strong trust in someone...

Re: Tabor on Paul
I am genuinely curious and puzzled as to what you see in Paul which is being ignored by contemporary Christian tradition. (unless you are referring to adoration of the Trump versions of Christianity which ignore pretty much anything Christian) One area would be the subject of Christology. Paul's Ch...

Re: Tabor on Paul
PseudoPaul you have somewhat different picture of this than I do. I was not going to state my difference but in truth I have zero interest in discussing Daniel Peterson so am casting about for some other diverting difference in viewpoints for exchange. I realize Marcion favored Paul but it seems un...

Re: Tabor on Paul
I believe we only have a lot of what Paul wrote because Marcion (considered a heretic) saved his epistles. Christianity didn't have much of a future as long as it remained Jewish. Saying Jesus was the messiah after he was crucified by Rome would be like a modern person claiming the Arizona Diamondba...
