Re: The Lost 116 Pages

Brack, Just noticed your post. Glad you learned from and enjoyed the book! To keep the book to the publisher's preferred length I had to leave some things on the cutting floor. One of these would particularly interest you: I identify the original lost-116-pages narrative ill context of Lehi's marria...

One thing is certain, Trump would never relax in a La-Z-Boy recliner with a snifter of orange soda while listening to Tannhäuser and reading Alfred Ploetz in the original German.
:D :D :D :D :D

Right?!!

Say what you will about DCP, he is very, very highbrow.

Re: SeN: "Hope for immortality" is a Useful Salve for Childhood "rape and strangulation."

So after all the suffering, penalty, purgatory, penance, repentance, or however one would conceive of it... then what? Don Mercy. I would certainly think so! I don't really claim to know just how this all works out, of course. But I believe in and trust a God that I expect to work it all out more b...

Re: SeN: "Hope for immortality" is a Useful Salve for Childhood "rape and strangulation."

I think when an eternal perspective is applied, the hope for justice for victims and perpetrators of acts in this life becomes meaningless. Because if all can become saved and redeemed at some point (becomes time is meaningless in eternity then however long it takes is irrelevant), there is no last...

LaneWolfley • 11 hours ago Thank you for these interesting observations. Mormonism is a distinct variation of the Universalist tradition, I think. Think about it: even Hitler eventually gets a crown of glory, resurrection and immortality in a Kingdom of unimaginable splendor! Louis Midgley LaneWolf...

Re: SeN: "Hope for immortality" is a Useful Salve for Childhood "rape and strangulation."

Even assuming, hypothetically, there is in fact no God, it's ridiculous to assert that evil people somehow "win" the final victory at anything. Humanity -- including all of its atheists -- has managed to improve upon itself through social healing and evolution since the dawn of recorded history. To...

Re: SeN: "Hope for immortality" is a Useful Salve for Childhood "rape and strangulation."

I can certainly sympathize with an atheistic perspective on questions like this, and even specifically on Dan Peterson's arguments. In fact, I approached these very arguments quite skeptically when I first heard them from Dan about 15 years ago, as an ex-Mormon atheist. Around that time, I was on a ...

Re: Thoughts on the Passing of Grindael

by the way, Mods... I've used Johnny's off-screen name here. I assume this is okay, because... 1) This did not appear to be something he kept secret. 2) Other posters had posted the names of Johnny's publications (as I believe Johnny himself had), and these publications contain his full name. 3) Joh...

Thoughts on the Passing of Grindael

My relationship with Johnny Grindael Stephenson didn't get off on the best foot, and to observers then, and to the two of us, it was anything but obvious that we would become friends. Johnny had left the LDS church decades earlier and held strong feelings against it. I had recently returned to that ...
