Philo's oxbow

I watched a backyard professor discussion about Alan Watts with some enjoyment. The proposal to avoid commitment to a particular religion to prevent the barriers to new learning that dogma creates registered as an important proposal. I might have heard it as be sure you do not let your religion beco...

Re: Transcendent Nephites

[advocate] ... It's not a religion about believing ideas. It's about getting ____ done. And I'd be willing to call religions like that primitive, because I expect that primitive religions were like that, but my point here is that maybe that kind of primitive never went out of style. It's true that ...

Re: Transcendent Nephites

I thought that Physics Guys comment on the other related thread could fit here. he said; "This is most of what I was trying to say in the other thread, that the ancientness of scriptures is a crucial part of the brand identity. Re: Did those pesky 116 pages really matter?

Kairos, reaching deep into my memory I believe i find that Joseph Smiths explanation was that he believed people would alter the version and then claim he could not reproduce it. He stated that he was inspired to not to play that game. The church view would be that and that it proceeded by Gods inst...

Re: Cook unsuccessfully tries to defend past racism, says black skin was the sign of a curse

Well that is what the Book of Mormon says.It is what it is. I mean you cannot reasonably pretend it says something about beautiful dark skin. It just does not say that. The quoted comment suggesting that dark skin was divine disfavor applied only to a group of people living long ago is about as goo...

Re: Did those pesky 116 pages really matter?

For Brodie the reason would be simple. He had no means to recreate them. Any attempt would be approximate and would show Josephs limitations.
