Re: Jesus is the reason baby
Every week I receive two or three e-mails asking me whether Jesus existed as a human being. When I started getting these e-mails, some years ago now, I thought the question was rather peculiar and I did not take it seriously. Of course Jesus existed. Everyone knows he existed. Don’t they? But the q...

Re: The authoritarian ideology of Russell Nelson
I don't know. I actually think that Nelson's previous prophecies had more pizzazz . The following is from p. 299 of the chapter titled Concluding Thoughts from Nelson's 1979 campaign autobiography: Divine law tells us to prepare for that which is to come. Today the world is ripening in iniquity that...

Re: Church significantly overstates membership numbers in Canada
Any survey will likely show self identification rates at 1/4 to 1/3 of what the church claims for total membership. That’s just logical, applying activity rates. I see the canada numbers as spot on what would be expected. In contrast, the Jehovah's Witnesses only report active membership: As of 202...

Re: Why Do Biblical Christians Think God Doesn't Inspire the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
I'm not sure that is an unmixed compliment to Catholicism. I wonder too how far the nature of Western Europe itself did not contribute to creating Catholicism as we know it? Once there was a (Western) Roman emperor, then there was the Pope. And so on. Oh, the Roman Empire is definitely responsible ...

Re: Why Do Biblical Christians Think God Doesn't Inspire the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?
Kishkumen, your response along with Physic Guy's succinct and 'on the money' reply a couple of posts before yours really do tell it all. People do find their own paths and adhere to their own views - hopefully, with respect for others. Though the 'respect' part can be questioned, I see. What about ...

Re: Critics should be able to produce their own Book of Mormon to attack its miraculous creation
Now, take the Book of Mormon -- I take the apologists literally when they say that the Book of Mormon is a 90-day wonder because it must be a 90-day wonder, the Book of Mormon needs to have been written in 90 days because the story itself can’t walk without crutches. I’ve posted this before, but I’...

Re: Critics should be able to produce their own Book of Mormon to attack its miraculous creation
At the risk of seeming to compare apples and oranges, let’s take a look at another generally well-loved book: The Lord of the Rings , which took Tolkien over a decade to finish, and which, I think, even apologists would agree is an internally consistent story and deserving of all the praises which t...

Nelson and Classmates Play Practical Joke on Japanese Girl in Medical School
The following is a raw transcript from an interview with Howard Sharp. an alumnus of the University of Utah School of Medicine. Brother Sharp was one of Russell M. Nelson's classmates in medical school. In the bolded portion below he describes a practical joke that he and Russell played on a Japanes...

Re: A gem from Russell Nelson's 98th birthday celebration
By the way, Nelson Jr. was born on Mar 22nd, not Mar 31. Dr. Moore, Nelson miswrote the date of birth in your passage quoted. However, he correctly cites it as occurring on March 21 in his CV and Highlights of 1972 . By the way, two of the newspaper clips that you posted state that Jr. weighed 8 po...
