Re: Mormon PR photoshop is excessive

I always wondered why the photos of the 12 in seminary were their calling photos. Since the church generally likes to sell itself new prints/photos/artwork from their own printing press they could update them at least every time a new apostle was called. They'd be more recognizable at conference time.

Re: Nemo takes a deep dive into the temple construction gravy train

I will try and find it but someone did do an investigation of new houses built around temples. My Google-fu is failing me, but they had found a case that someone had donated the property to the church so they saved there, and then the person sold the property around it to developers who built houses...

Re: Nemo takes a deep dive into the temple construction gravy train

I'd certainly bow to your experience and such. I think generally what I have heard supports it, and peanuts may have just meant it wasn't excessive or anything. I would think it's a bit like service staff at a high end restaurant is making more in tips than someone at Chili's. It just goes with the ...

Re: Nemo takes a deep dive into the temple construction gravy train

It's a shame French Toast probably isn't lurking to see that we aren't blind Nemo fans. I think that there could be something here to look at and evaluate, but you need someone with some knowledge to really dig in and some of this is private and/or just not going to be revealed to the likes of Nemo....

Re: British LDS Successfully Lobbied for Background Checks

I don’t know, sometimes real world context can be interesting. Though I agree in this context I don’t know I buy what French Toast is selling, and even if Nemo is an annoying narcissist I applaud that he helped create pressure for this change to happen. Also if French Toast’s wife helped then good o...

Re: British LDS Successfully Lobbied for Background Checks

I am going to agree with Marcus and while you think you are having a laugh at Nemo my guess is it’s mostly only in your head. Any ally worth having that would compromise themselves for a stake calling is not worth one having, though my guess is that she won’t be asked to no longer associate with Nem...

Re: British LDS Successfully Lobbied for Background Checks

I was sitting a few rows behind him at our recent stake conference, and a friend was sitting in the row directly in front. That friend shared with me later that one of his siblings was overheard to say, "Please don't oppose the business," to which he responded, "I'll do what I like. This is my stak...

Re: Mormons walk away from major multinational tax evasion scheme

I find it very unsurprising based on the original news on this matter. It looks like the church is trying to 'fix' things so that once the pronouncement/judgement is made they can claim that they worked to fix things as soon as they were aware (that the government was aware). It is merely following ...

Re: The Church didn't feel obligated to fill in that box

Todd's parents served in the same mission as me. I was in the office for 5 months with them, about 30 hours a week. They were good people, and I have nothing but love for them. Todd is the only kid of theirs that I can recall distinctly hearing about since he was in Japan running a bank. I've though...

Re: You ain't seen nothing yet, Joseph Smith Papers finished

I guess the point of this is that last quote: “All I would simply say,” Bednar said, “is that you ain’t seen nothing yet.” What pray tell does your peep stone/intuition/etc. think we have in store? Will the church reveal more around the succession crisis? Will the various journals in the vault be fu...
