Re: An exotic new argument for eye-witness testimony
A person in whose face a pistol was brandished might well be unable to identify the brandisher of the pistol, but won’t likely be confused as to whether or not a gun But they might not distinguish whether it was a genuine gun, or simply a prop. Especially if the gun were to be, say, hidden under a ...

Re: An exotic new argument for eye-witness testimony
Why is what 11 family and close friends said in support of Joseph Smith’s claims more credible than what 11 of Donald Trump’s family and close supporters say in support of him?

Re: 92,000 BSA sex abuse claims

The leader is completely outnumbered and only has partial contruol of any of the event. I would expect that isolation from the group would be necessary for sexual predation. I wo...

Re: SeN: "Hope for immortality" is a Useful Salve for Childhood "rape and strangulation."
Back to dastardly stem's comment, I would have to agree with his conclusion that the lds theology does not, at least consistently, believe in finite punishment. If one believed in eternity, the argument that "no finite wrongdoing can rightly incur an infinite penalty" makes sense, but it is not wha...

Re: SeN: "Hope for immortality" is a Useful Salve for Childhood "rape and strangulation."
We are talking about two different kinds of justice here. I'm less concerned that an eye be taken for an eye and more concerned that right ultimately be done by people who were done wrong here. And the best possible recompense for them is not that those who inflicted harm on them will suffer foreve...

Re: SeN: "Hope for immortality" is a Useful Salve for Childhood "rape and strangulation."
Those who think anyone should be punished forever may be forgetting just how long forever is. Suppose every murderer had to spend 1,000,000 years of penance for each victim whose life they took, and suppose some particularly horrendous murderer killed several million people in concentration camps. ...
