Re: Mopologists Make Their Predictions for 2023
Looking at photos of the Mopologists isn't the best way to judge their personalities. But being generally familiar with their writings, defensiveness, aggressiveness, pet topics, etc., I can say that Scott Lloyd, Blake Ostler, and Louis Midgely are three people I would have zero interest in having l...

Re: Don't Pray, Just Obey!
There's another thread on the board about Jeffrey Holland ripping on the missionaries in Britain and telling them that if the mission were a horse, he'd shoot it. Holland's remarks - elitist, out-of-touch with reality, even abusive - are indicative of a larger malaise that's infected leadership for ...

Re: "If This Mission Were A Horse, I'd Shoot It." -- Jeffrey R. Holland
One additional thought, Holland sure seems angry these days, frustrated and at a loss on how to handle disaffected members and how to correct the church's problems. Holland is a TBM who grew into adulthood venerating leaders, like he is today. That someone would question the church, question leaders...

Re: "If This Mission Were A Horse, I'd Shoot It." -- Jeffrey R. Holland
The church has felt comfortable in its a**holery towards members, and especially missionaries, for the past however many decades because members and missionaries have consistently viewed and treated leaders like Holland as God's literal mouthpieces on earth. The sense of power, of influence, of bein...

Paying for the privilege of being a full-time missionary, subject to the ecclesiastical abuses that it all entails, becomes less and less attractive every time Holland visits a mission and opens his mouth.

Re: Book of Abraham--false, but Book of Mormon--"true"
Sock puppet, I know that your question wasn't for me to answer. But I'll take a stab at it and say that a TBM who accepts the Book of Mormon as authentically divine but not the Book of Abraham is a member in transition. Give them some time and they'll descend farther into the gray shades of nuance, ...

Re: Gee's thoughts on how others think of his work
https://www.fromthedesk.org/10-questions-john-gee/ "Misinformation and misconceptions about the Book of Abraham can trouble to Latter-day Saints, but usually, the part that people find troubling is assuming that the misinformation is true." I doubt Gee has succeeded in proving the "misinformation" ...

DCP isn't often able to congratulate himself or Mopologetics without also bagging on someone or something else in the process.

Re: Independent LDS researcher puts active membership at 6 million
Once they acknowledge the declining membership it will be framed as a sure sign of the end times. Only the truly valiant in the pre-existence signed up to be present in this final climactic orgasm of religious persecution and godlessness. Yes, and that's happening even now. How many times have we h...

Re: Independent LDS researcher puts active membership at 6 million
I think it's fair to say that the specifics of both the JW and the LDS are not particularly relevant. The fact that JWs get their growth through member proselytizing is huge though. LDS missionaries come and go, and often the converts they bring in leave when they do. The pressure upon Mormons to b...
