Re: LDS Church kept the lid on its $100B fund for fear tithing receipts would fall, account boss tells Wall Street Journ
To drive home the point, MG, say one of your children got accepted to Harvard Medical School, and really wanted to get a medical degree for the noble purpose of dedicating the rest of his life to fighting malaria in Africa. With that as his goal, he simply cannot afford to borrow money to pay for me...

I honestly don’t see a problem with the church having a rainy day fund. Or families for that matter. Of course Jesus taught that you should NOT have a rainy day fund, and instead should sell all you have, give it to the poor, and not plan or worry about tomorrow. Other than people who take the teac...

Late to this discussion but it seems to me that Hinckley might have been at least arguably telling the truth in saying no tithing funds were used to build the mall, even though tithing funds were used to underwrite it. I'm not an expert in real estate financing but I believe that underwriting is es...

Re: Election Litigation Scorecard
An interesting point of the PA case is that in only two weeks, Trump’s original team of lawyers and their replacements all filed motions to be removed from the case. Why can’t Trump find patriotic heroes to defend truth and righteousness in court?

Re: SeN: "Hope for immortality" is a Useful Salve for Childhood "rape and strangulation."
Per LDS teachings, Bradford is most likely in the Celestial Kingdom right now, and he's an exalted being, wielding dominion over his own planet/universe. Maybe he's basking in the glory of the stratified society akin to the one depicted in Added Upon . Now, how does this constitute justice in Dr. P...

Re: Biden Takes Georgia; Violence on Horizon
Biden is currently ahead in Georgia, but there are about 25K of various flavors of ballot left to count. I'm also seeing some dialing back of the rhetoric, so, while there may be a few instances of violence, I'm not expecting anything widespread. Law enforcement seems to be keeping things in check....

Re: An Electoral College Proposal
I like your proposal, MeDotOrg. Explaining the math differently, say state X has 10 EC votes. Within that state, say: Candidate X received 55% of the vote Candidate Y received 40% of the vote Candidate Z received 5% of the vote The state's 10 EC votes would be divided up proportional to the votes re...

Re: An Electoral College Proposal
You understand that... I suppose it shouldn’t be surprising that literally everything you said in this post is factually wrong. …you are just displacing a popular vote model with needless math, right? That is false. MeDotOrg's excellent proposal is NOT mathematically equivalent to a popular vote. I...

Remembering an Old EA Insight
As I recall, it was about five years ago that EAllusion had the following insight: If Hillary Clinton were to win in 2016, by 2020 the country would be experiencing severe Democrat burnout after 12 years of Obama/Clinton in the white house. Given that and the inherent weakness of Clinton as a candid...

Re: Thursday Election Updates
Nope. It just took counting votes. And PA is down to 50k. I believe the point, the obvious point, is that "vote" isnt just every piece of paper that shows up. And while you are about to tout the legitimacy here for the "legality" of everything going on, i will be busy re-reading your post about the...
