Re: Religion is dead...how can Mormonism survive?

From the first Lecture in Lectures on faith: "15 By this we understand that the principle of power, which existed in the bosom of God, by which the worlds were framed, was faith; and that it is by reason of this principle of power, existing in the Deity, that all created things exist—so that all thi...

Re: Religion is dead...how can Mormonism survive?

Dastardly stem It is clear that the universe is big and old. It is not clear whether it has had previous cycles, interrelates with something else or has a future beyond dissolution. It is not at all clear that that a creator God does not interfere with the process going on. We have no way of knowing....

Re: Cutting down *all* the trees in your yard

Oh, it’s definitely an aspen leaf. I own the young tree that it came off of. It spent most of the summer putting out typical, fairly dainty aspen leaves but was nearly defoliated during a late-season wind storm (the town next door recorded winds above 90 mph). At that point it kicked out a few of t...

Re: Cutting down *all* the trees in your yard

8 inches?? :o That IS huge for Aspen! Wait ... I’m a dirty rotten liar. More like 7.25” when I actually measure. That’s still pretty big! Got a pic - https://i.ibb.co/5j9kVKG/32-E61006-93-A9-46-B6-8-A7-B-81-F84-EF59703.jpg I am not a leaf expert but I have some doubt about the aspen leaf. Just for ...

Re: Biden is inaugurated - congratulations, America!

The defense may yet boil down to, I AM TRUMP!

The crew of his Senators will say, well in that case we can't really convict.

It is only a step away from that theoretical shooting of a person on main st, or the capitol building..

Re: Certain people can't ever get it right

Doc, it is not my idea, if find it vague at best. It is a residual in my mind about comments in the Lectures on Faith. It does recognize the puzzle of how in Mormon view a person transcends human limitation and developes all the trqanscending divine powers. But you used it. So you must have an idea...

Re: Certain people can't ever get it right

Lem, I believe much of the value of a story lies in the details of the telling . A quick plot summary from Wikapedia which I checked does not present a full picture of the actual value of the story. I am a total skeptic about he mechanism proposed but I can see an interest in how a persons thoughts ...

Re: Certain people can't ever get it right

Does God play three dimensional golf like we do? I doubt it. But he may play golf. Would it look like golf to us? Are there are a lot of other things He does differently? Does he put the milk in his cup before he puts the tea in - or the other way round? Or, in some wondrous multidimensional way do...

Re: Certain people can't ever get it right

That, I must concede, is where Mormonism wins big time: Heavenly Father is an exalted human with a material body, who did not create the cosmos, but lives in it like we do. Such an object of worship (if he exists) can be spoken of in ways that might potentially convey real and verifiable informatio...
