Re: New Intel: The Decline of Pres. Monson
Uchdorf won't get the job. He hasn't been there long enough. The pecking order is in line with length of service as an Apostle. Uchdorf may just be trying to prolong Monson's tenure until Packer drops his clogs. I think it would be in Uchtdorf's best interest to take a very orthodox approach to all...

Re: New Intel: The Decline of Pres. Monson
My impression has been that Uchtdorf is anything but a "lightweight". We're talking about a former Top Gun fighter pilot and German who was a leader of Lufthansa at a very early age. He strikes me as a very ambitious and somewhat ruthless leader who knows exactly what he's doing. The Germ...

I think Brigham Young "showed the way" when he brushed Sidney Rigdon aside and took control back in 1844.

Re: New Intel: The Decline of Pres. Monson
Does anyone know if Benson ever made a similar power grab n the early 80s? I can't imagine that he would have had the chutzpah. Maybe Hinckley was just too powerful to take on, and Packer sees Uchtdorf as a lightweight. My impression has been that Uchtdorf is anything but a "lightweight"....

Re: Skousen Fireside in Cedar City
Please tell us more! When you think you've heard everything, something like this comes up. The theory you outline sounds crazy enough to make one suspect that Skousen produced it in collaboration with Schryver. Was anything said that might indicate that? Well, Schryver was there of course. He playe...

Re: New Intel: The Decline of Pres. Monson
In the past when a prophet has started to decline, it's been mostly physical. So it's been easy to just keep him out of the public eye with the excuse that he's not physically able to be there. But Alzheimer's patients, at first, remain physically able to get around, and they only show signs of the ...

Re: New Intel: The Decline of Pres. Monson
The health rumor doesn't surprise me. He has seemed a little "weird" (for lack of a better word) during recent GCs. Was it the April general conference when he walked up to the podium, waved and said "Hi"? It got a lot of laughs. He did other goofy things like that, hamming it u...

Re: New Intel: The Decline of Pres. Monson
I heard this morning from one of my informants--this is the person who supposedly has a rather deep connection to the Church hierarchy in Salt Lake City. Compared with the intel I receive concerning the Maxwell Institute, this is much harder to verify, so as always, take it with a shaker-full of sa...

Re: Skousen Fireside in Cedar City
The fireside was interesting. I wasn't aware, beforehand, that Skousen is actually quite the orthodox/fundamentalist when it comes to the translation of the Book of Mormon. He actually believes, for example, that Joseph Smith read words off of a rock in a hat and read them out loud. He believes that...
