Re: Are school shootings the price we have to pay for the second amendment?

And the toll isn’t just in dead and wounded kids. Here’s a text I just received from Ms. Ipsa, who teaches at the local middle school: They did their periodic ALICE drill Friday, so everyone should be up to speed if the worst happened. The students and teachers from Oxford High School are dealing w...

Question- is it normal for a university to have both phi beta
Kappa and phi kappa phi - I have relatives who were honored for one or the other not both?
I got my undergrad degree at the University of California, Davis. My recollection is that it had both.

Re: Covid, Politics and Death

The new talking point in Right Wing media is that Biden should resign for having more COVID deaths than Trump. I'm surprised ajax hasn't brought it up. Of course, the argument rests on a faulty premise. There were roughly 500,000 COVID deaths by the time Biden took over. There are now 800,000, whic...

Re: Roe on the Chopping Block

Consider this argument It’s a false equivalence question meant to put the pro-lifer at a disadvantage. For example, if you had to choose between your wife and your child which one would you choose? Or what about your child and five adult strangers? All sorts of unfair inferences can be made dependi...

Re: Covid, Politics and Death

From NPR Since May 2021, people living in counties that voted heavily for Donald Trump during the last presidential election have been nearly three times as likely to die from COVID-19 as those who live in areas that went for now-President Biden. That's according to a new analysis by NPR that exami...

Re: Moderation Thread — SSP Version

We've received a number of reports on posts in the second amendment/school shooting thread. I'm going to take a crack and moderating that thread, with emphasis on the spirit of the no disrespectful communications rule, as an experiment and to give the mod team some concrete issues to focus on. We m...

Re: Advanced board games I recommend

My group of co-op friends started Pandemic Legacy Season Zero yesterday. It starts with a prologue that can be played multiple times to get the hang of the variations on the basic Pandemic Rules. We loved Seasons One and Two and have heard good things about Zero. Season Zero is set in the Cold War, ...

Moderation Thread — SSP Version

Hello everyone, After observing the first few days of the new forum, I have a few thoughts. First, this new forum will largely be what you make of it. It can be a place where Ideas can be explored and discussed without interference from trolling, personal animosity, long-standing grudges, etc. Or it...

Re: Pandemic: Life on the ground

Yes, please do! One of our friends got the 3rd Moderna and had side effects for 2 days. I'm very sure he's much older than you though so that may have a lot to do with it. I died for 4 days on the third shot of Pfizer but really, it was only fatigue. It was exactly like any time I return to altitud...
