Re: Faith! What's it good for? Absolutely nothing!
In a post down thread in "Making Covenants," MG 2.0 observes alas, it seems as though almost anything connected with faith has a fair amount of uncertainty mixed in. It is repeated frequently by religionists that god favors those that act on mere faith over those that insist on knowing. In light of...

Re: Faith! What's it good for? Absolutely nothing!
God and theism aside, humans have advanced by rejecting known options and seeking something more, something unknown and uncreated. I think faith is valuable when reality isn't good enough, and when through imagination we can make it better. Sounds like god resides in the cinematic arts. I'm an athe...

Nah, some do better and are aware that their position is risky and respect others who have chosen different positions.

Re: What exactly Is Wrong with Polygamy anyway?
Aside from that I would say that a roadblock to consenting, no abusive polygamy is that it seems legally complicated. And, Meadowchik, are you saying that consenting, non-abusive monogamy does not seem to be legally complicated? Nope, just significantly less complicated, in general. I'm not saying ...

Re: A thread dedicated to A.I. debating the decline of Mormonism.
I wonder how much effort it would take to write an app that processes the posts & comments of two or more posters on DM. The app would watch for each poster to make a post, and then reply to by commenting as one of the other posters. By using the "in the style of" parameter the app could emulate an...

Re: The coastline of England can’t be measured, therefore the Book of Mormon can’t be disproven
There's a very simple test here:
What else can't you disprove via science?
The Lochness Monster
Big Foot
Scientology
.
.
.
Etc...
So does that company inspire you? Do you now feel compelled to join the Mormons??

Re: If someone doesn’t believe the Witnesses, it’s because they haven’t studied them
Life experience shows that lots of people can believe something happened when it didn't or that they saw something when they didn't. Furthermore in that time period they weren't in ours where it's more black and white. Now we see this as either confirmation or not of LDS claims. To them, the experie...

Re: What exactly Is Wrong with Polygamy anyway?
I'm talking about Joseph Smith, the doctrine and covenants, and the people since then and until now who use both as sources to legitimize abusive forms of polygamy. Meadowchik, you can talk about that as much as you want, but that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about legitimizing non-abu...

Re: What exactly Is Wrong with Polygamy anyway?
Coercive polygamy is the issue with Mormonism. So you're talking Reb Tevye and Golde versus Tzeitel and Motel. It was wrong for Tevye's and Golde's parents to arrange their marriage? It seemed like it turned out okay in the end. And by the way, I had a bishop tell me who he thought I should marry. ...
