Re: The 2nd Amendment in the 21st Century
No-one has even made a serious attempt to answer it, so far as I have have noticed. The UK will never be safe as long as mushy peas exist. All kidding aside, I don't think the UK would be made safer with a large proliferation of guns. I think the U.S. is stuck in this weird loop that becaus...

Re: Brits hold a super spreader event
Rumor has it that the Queen holds these events because it is easier to sap the people of their lifeforce when they are all bunched together rather than spread out. No wonder she has lived for so long.

Re: Lafferty Interview from the Year 2000
The Mormon crowd laughed when Krakauer's Under the Banner of Heaven placed the orthodox Mormon experience side by side with other religious extremist beliefs. When I initially read the book I found myself agreeing that placing "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree" singing Mormons as religious extrem...

Re: The 2nd Amendment in the 21st Century
In other words - Is the reasoning behind the writing of the 2nd A. still relevant given the evolution of warfare/weaponry? An interesting point that I have wrestled with. On one hand, past conflicts like Afghanistan (both Soviet and U.S.), Iraq, Vietnam, heavily showcase that even what were conside...

Re: The 2nd Amendment in the 21st Century
In my opinion, there is no “textual” answer. Intent doesn’t help us much either. Modern weaponry is so different from what arms meant back in the day, that there in no rational way to divine the intent. I appreciate your answer Res. After thinking about it, I think you bring up a great point here. ...

Re: The 2nd Amendment in the 21st Century
I want to offer some push back on some ideas because I think it would make for interesting debate. Is personal gun ownership an extreme interpretation of the 2nd amendment? Historically, militias and armies were comprised purely of private citizens that in a time of war were called up by the king or...

Re: School Shooting in Uvalde Texas
It's true that automatic fire is a red herring. As any infantry instructor will tell you, in most circumstances an automatic hand-held weapon only lets you waste ammunition. Semi-automatic fire, which is only as fast as you can pull the trigger but the weapon reloads itself when you do, is a bigger...

Re: School Shooting in Uvalde Texas
This story begins with a young man who, by virtue of the fact that he has attained 18 years of age, legally purchased automatic weapons, designed, not to defend, but kill as many as possible. Governor Abbot can talk about mental health facilities until he is blue in the face, but unless you can vou...

Re: News vs. Fake News
Removing the loopholes making existing laws worthless. Google the Charleston Loophole for an example. Preventing people from buying any kind of gun they want off the internet or gun shows. Require background checks. That's minimal stuff. Next level stuff would be a ban on assault-style weapons or h...
