Re: Libertarian Fools' Paradise
That's a serious conundrum, and it's certainly relevant. Every now and again some hair-brain tax legislature will get proposed by dems, and I'll have a moment where I think, "don't make not care if Trump wins" and I'm not wealthy. The tendency not to take account of the range of views in the electo...

Well, not quite. There's that whole "Law of Consecration" thing, "which means dedicating our time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed us to building up Jesus Christ’s Church on the earth." (Taken right from the church's website, so I assume this is not against the board rules t...

Re: Libertarian Fools' Paradise
All wonderful insights, Dean Robbers. I was struck by an argument about fascist Germany that I recently encountered on one of the cable “news” shows. The Nazis were able to stitch together enough support from different quarters to take power. It was by appealing to the desires of normally incompatib...

The LDS Church is not a fraud. It is an exorbitantly expensive social club with an expensive entrance fee: 10% of your income for life. Fortunately, they use an honor system to monitor follow through on that commitment.

Libertarian Fools' Paradise
I am not a big fan of libertarianism because, in my view, it ignores inescapable realities about the human species and civilization. Homo sapiens dominates primarily because of its superior ability to act in concert as large coalitions. To effectively do so over long periods of time is the job of ci...

Re: RFM on Kamp in Court
I haven’t talked about these issues anywhere to my recollection. Jenn Kamp filed a lawsuit against John Dehlin in Federal court alleging harassment, but she filed it in the wrong court system. I think that was around January of 2023. Jenn then did a podcast about her lawsuit, the allegations in it,...

Re: FAIR: New “Me, My Shelf, and I” pod series
Episode 3: Their discussion of the "Fall of Rome" is completely outdated. They call Odoacer's seizure of power in the West in 476 AD as "the Fall of Rome," when the Eastern Empire continued for another thousand years. They perpetuate the overly simplistic myth of the "Dark Ages." More funniness: The...

Re: FAIR: New “Me, My Shelf, and I” pod series
The more I think about it, the more I see this as a real branding challenge. Listening right now, and the sound is slick and groovy, but that does not match with the rest of the presentation. This needs to be its own channel, not something under the banner of the staid FAIR: Faithful Answers, Inform...
