Re: The Quincy Account

In my blog post (linked in the OP), I address the word "signature" as someone else used it. I'll try to add a screenshot here. https://discussmormonism.com/download/file.php?id=623 The Webster 1828 Dictionary server is still down. I therefore refer to my earlier post which I’m pretty sure is the No...

Re: For Ryan Larsen on Tim Barker's FAIR 2020 BofAbr Presentation

You are very kind Ryan. I have him! That is Muhlestein. The Lord has delivered him into my hands for this upcoming Sunday Live Backyard Professor Sunday Fireside. I am rather excited to share it... I look forward to it! I don't want to speak any ill of him, as I think he's a great person, but I'm s...

Re: The Quincy Account

Agreed Res Ipsa. Gathering all the other accounts and evidences of the literalness of Joseph Smith, the Signature of Abraham is seriously very probable of Joseph Smith to say that. Isolating one witness without all the background doesn't do it justice. I guess that is what I am telling Ryan as well...

Re: The Quincy Account

You are definitely a tough cookie 🍪 you inspired me to do a little extra digging. Thank you. It turns out that at least one relevant letter about his experience in Nauvoo has been found. It’s apparently quoted in full here: https://byustudies.byu.edu/article/josiah-quincys-1844-visit-with-joseph-sm...

Re: The Quincy Account

In his introduction, Quincy states: I trust that all of us better understand or appreciate what Quincy may have meant by the “grace of expression” as he tendered his views to different parties whether it be his beloved wife, his own journal, or someone else. But the testimonials came from him as he...

Re: The Quincy Account

The book has Quincy saying, about Joseph Smith’s greeting to him, that “a blessing formed no part of it.” The book depicts this as being in contrast to Smith saying “God bless you” to Adams. It sounds like both you and Quincy disagree with the writer of the book, and are more inclined to trust inste...

Re: The Quincy Account

We don’t have Quincy’s testimony. We have an account written decades later by an unknown person, based (to an unknown extent) on things Quincy wrote. We have “FIGURES OF THE PAST”: “IT is by no means improbable that some future text-book, for the use of generations yet unborn, will contain a questi...

Re: For Ryan Larsen on Tim Barker's FAIR 2020 BofAbr Presentation

I look forward to your show tonight! 😊 💯 Thank you amigo. I will be on in 10 minutes! Was a great show, as always! And RFM even compared you to the loveable Yukon Cornelius, in the chat! by the way, I added/changed the following in my commentary on Barker’s presentation: The relevant initial facts ...

Re: The Quincy Account

Again, everything seems to be in order in using the word autograph in conjunction with signature . It all fits just fine and shows merit. I trust that Josiah Quincy was well educated and used words appropriately. There is no reason whatsoever to discount his testimonial. It seems a clear case for p...
