Re: Does Learning A New Language As A Missionary Ever Alter One’s Accent For The Rest Of Their Life?
The origin story of Dan's idiosyncratic speech pattern makes about as much sense as the origin story of Spider-Man's superpowers. Dan isn't the only multilingual person in the world. There are many multilinguists here on this board, many in Mopologetics and in legitimate academia, and all round the ...

Re: LDS investments exposed to FTX fraud
It's hard to feel badly about the possibility of the church losing money on its cryptocurrency investments. In the end, it might mean one fewer, empty, new McTemples in the fiscal year.

Re: Miracle of the Seagulls: Lowering another fantastic faith promoting trope
The miracle of the gulls was the first faith-promoting story (a.k.a. Mormon urban legend) that I recall in my life. (Well, besides the whole First Vision and Book of Mormon translation shenanigans, but you get my drift.) There are dozens and dozens of Mormon urban legends that could use a nice, gent...

Re: DCP's backhanded compliment to the late former pope
Meanwhile, in other news, the terms "Mormon" and "Mormon church" continue to be regularly used at Scumbag Central without anyone at all thinking there's anything remotely "disrespectful" about them. Kiwi, my friend, this is how everyone who is a member of -- whatever it is you want to call it -- ta...

Re: DCP's backhanded compliment to the late former pope
Has Dan ever lost an argument, an academic controversy, a chess match, a checkers match? Has he ever been wrong? Yes, he has. He has even written about one such incident before: While I was vacationing in Berlin some years back, I was invited to dinner by Wolfhart Pannenberg. I thought it was to be...

Re: DCP's backhanded compliment to the late former pope
 No, Peterson absolutely meant to disparage him with his statement. The phrase he uses is clear: “.. Ratzinger has now entered into a new life after decades of attempting to serve God in the best way he could…” Peterson's genteel slam of the late Pope Emeritus is also evident in his statement...

Re: DCP's backhanded compliment to the late former pope
It would seem to me, that there was an absolute abundance of approved Catholic terms that DCP could have used to describe the former Pope. Pope, Holy Father, Pontiff, Benedict XVI, the Pope emeritus, ect ect. If DCP can't see the irony here in asking the world to follow Mormonism's style guide, whi...

Re: “There is no such thing…”
Louis Midgley …There is simply no such thing as a "Mormon movement consisting of the LDS main Church and the 200 or so other branches" of a movement. The reason is that there is no such thing as "the LDS Church" which is, as you wrongly have it, is "a branch" of a movement. http://disq.us/p/2sjvnsz...

Re: Gee's thoughts on how others think of his work
Both Royal Skousen and Terryl Skousen have admitted Smiths interpretations of the facsimiles are wrong and that the content of the Book of Abraham was given by revelation. Seems like Gee's obsession with the Book of Abraham has alienated him from most of his fellow Mopologists. He is so hell-bent o...
