Re: Dan Peterson ignorant of Russell's Teapot

A poster on SeN made a rather uncontroversial remark: "Nobody knows what happens after death." This can't stand unchallenged, of course. If Peterson had read a book or two he might be aware of the example of Russell's Teapot. I'm grateful I am able to fill in this glaring gap in Daniel's general kn...

Clearly Paul got it wrong! Who are you going to believe, Paul or the Christ himself?

Re: Mormon missionary took Covid to Tonga

Presumably the missionary did something wrong to allow this to happen. Masturbation, not praying hard enough, or not reading his scriptures. Take your pick.

Divine Hiddenness in Alma

Dan wrote some article about how miraculous it is that Joseph Smith dictated the same sentence at different points in the translation process. https://journal.interpreterfoundation.org/oh-that-i-were-an-angel/ Yawn. However, here's something interesting from Alma he quoted: Consider the story in whi...

Re: Dan Peterson ignorant of Russell's Teapot

It cuts both ways. He's trying to argue with the Ramanujan summation that we can't always rely on our intuition. I agree - but DP ignores that principle when it doesn't cut in his favor. The world looks like it was designed for us, animals look intricately designed. But the fossil record bears witne...

Re: C.S. Lewis - Mormon in Embryo

I believe that I read it when it first appeared. I'm well aware of the theological differences between Lewis and Latter-day Saints, and have been for several decades -- despite the confident assertions of the hostile mind-readers over at the Peterson Obsession Board where you were given that link. ...

Re: Dan Peterson ignorant of Russell's Teapot

You're absolutely right about the positive assertion, but it misses the implicit assumption inside the argument about low probability. There exists a possibility that there is a teapot orbiting Saturn. It is technically possible. Likewise there exists a possibility that someone has knowledge of life...

Re: RFM v. Midnight Mormons—Debate

Did midnight Mormons lose their studio? They’re just making videos out of Kwaku’s friends’s brother’s ex-girlfriend’s dorm room now.

Re: Dan Peterson ignorant of Russell's Teapot

I'm happy to give Dr. Peterson the benefit of the doubt, as philosophy is not his area of expertise. If I recall correctly, that is Arabic studies.
