Re: The Jesus Myth: An unrelenting case for history

I think the Superman comparison is pretty silly and disrespectful, but illuminating as to where you’re coming from now. Lol. K. I’ll stick with Ehrman, since the mythesists don’t seem very serious. I think I’ve pointed out it’s the opposite of this. Mythicists have worked to produce peer reviewed s...

Re: The Jesus Myth: An unrelenting case for history

This sentence seems to me you haven’t taken Ehrman’s arguments seriously. He points out in very detailed lectures exactly how Jesus morphed and why.
All my ears here. How so?

Re: The Jesus Myth: An unrelenting case for history

Nothing in this list is something crazy. I wish the mythesists would focus on this list instead of the list of supernatural things about Jesus. We all agree that Jesus was a myth. yes, if you strip any mythical story down to a few mundane sounding elements then it might as well be true that all cha...

Re: The Jesus Myth: An unrelenting case for history

Whoever told this to you was lying to you. There are only a handful of mythicist and they are considered to be cranks. https://ehrmanblog.org/the-gospels-and-the-existence-of-jesus/ Nobody told me this. It's my conclusion. Well somebody told me then I looked into it. Bart's blog does not provide a ...

Re: The Jesus Myth: An unrelenting case for history

This approach has major problems, which have already been discussed . yeah...don't really want to rehash that after taking a skim. The deities and mythic heroes originated at some point in the prehistory or protohistory of Greece and Rome, when those cultures were not even fully literate yet. The H...

Re: The Jesus Myth: An unrelenting case for history

It’s my understanding she does not take the mythesist position. I think that's right. just wish I knew why, as with many others who are adamantly historicists. For those interested, Carrier keeps a list of scholars who take the mythicist position seriously, as far as he's been able to confirm. http...

Re: The Jesus Myth: An unrelenting case for history

Stem , your quote is correct you just interpret it as you believe not as Justin believed. To Justin the truth of the Jesus story was very important and he viewed that as in contrast to the similar stories which he viewed as both false and morally corrupt. That is why I copied chapter 23where Justin...

Re: The Jesus Myth: An unrelenting case for history

I think this is worth emphasizing. No one except believing Christians are claiming with a surety that the historical Jesus existed. That's not true. Ehrman has declared with terrible reasoning that Jesus certainly existed. he puts the figure at 99% certain--which in historical terms, especially for...

Re: The Jesus Myth: An unrelenting case for history

Stem, If the Jews were to invent a character which was to be the messiah, they would not have chosen the Jesus story. I dispute that. As Justin and many others have shown us, Jesus is exactly the character the hellenized Jews of the diaspora would have invented. Jesus was not the new David that the...

Re: The Jesus Myth: An unrelenting case for history

Your qualifier of "recent" may or may not apply all that much. Why would that matter? It could be that Jesus existed...It could be that he did not. That is the question. You seem to be suggesting it's evidence that he existed because Alexander existed. But it's two separate cases. You seem to be mi...
