Re: Mopologetics and Religious Surveys
DS: "I'm wondering on what you base your motivation, if not by an eternal reward?" I re-read The Abolition of Man, by C. S. Lewis, on the flight from London to Salt Lake City yesterday. My answer to your question would be pretty much the answer that Lewis gives. So, yes, then: he *does* base his be...

Re: A Poor Woman With Dirty Clothes Ruined Louis Midgley's Trip To England
DS: "I can't think of anything more repulsive than only helping others due to belief they will be getting an eternal reward." Oh, I can think of many things more repulsive than that. Murdering scores of millions of people in the name of atheistic Marxism is one. Murdering millions in the name of Na...

Mopologetics and Religious Surveys
Over the past few years, I've noticed an aggressive reliance on "well-being" surveys over at SeN in order to justify Mormonism--not directly, mind you, but as a defense of religion or "religiosity" more generally. But the use of these surveys is almost entirely polemical: it's not an occasion to thi...

Re: Deep into the Heart of Africa
Some important observations here, Dean Robbers. I noticed that The Proprietor said something to the effect that his wife "has outdone herself with our hotel room," or perhaps that was in reference to London? It would seem there is a reason why he was recently boasting about how arduous his work is: ...

Re: Forty Hours Per Week?
I’d definitely be willing to “look at” empirical evidence of DCP doing 40 hours of work as you’ve described, Dr. Moore.

Re: Forty Hours Per Week?
The latest fruits of Dr. Peterson's grueling, incredibly strenuous 40+ hour work week has turned up on the Interpreter blog: This just went up on the website of the Interpreter Foundation: “The Temple: Ancient and Restored: ‘The Cosmic Mountain in Islamic Tradition,'” written by Daniel C. Peterson P...

Re: Forty Hours Per Week?
Someone should do a Bayesian analysis comparing the likelihood that the Book of Mormon is real history vs. the likelihood that DCP will serve an actual senior mission. Which, I wonder, is the bigger longshot?

Re: Forty Hours Per Week?
Look, it just needs to be stated plainly: DCP is a terrible Latter-day Saint. When I think back on all the hundreds of Mormons I’ve known over the years, and how they lived their faith….DCP is an absolute embarrassment compared to the best of them. These are people who were humble, hard-working, and...

Re: Forty Hours Per Week?
I’d happily chip in $100 for that bet, Dr. Robbers. But we both know he won’t do it—either because he doesn’t actually believe that Church leaders are led by God, or because he doesn’t care. And the exchange with David Sanders was epic! DCP is lashing out in a rage. He himself has tried to make the ...

Re: Forty Hours Per Week?
I spend easily forty hours a week on such things — from morning until, typically, late at night — 11 AM would barely qualify as morning, and "Late" would have to be at least 10 PM. Has anyone ever meant 7 PM when they say, "I won't be home until late at night?" And so bare minimum, the claim is 55 ...
