Yes, well, after some experience on this site I have learned never to read anything Tobin writes given my tendencies as noted above. Life is too short.

Re: John Gee, Historian

I will never forget the knockdown, drag-out fights I used to have with EV anti-Mormons online. It amazes me to reflect on where I started out in all of this. I'm an atheist (not a "New Atheist"), and I STILL get into fights with EV anti-Mormons, which does feel a bit odd but my natural di...

Re: The John Dehlin Circus Continues

He asked the FP to respond to him personally as a "professional courtesy." I lol'd when I read that. What exactly is that supposed to mean, anyway? WTF is a "professional courtesy" in this context? I'm sorry, but the more I hear from/about John Dehlin, the more convinced I am th...

The views regarding Joseph Smith and his critics in the blog post by Robert Rees linked to below reflect how I felt about Smith for a long time. It is hard not to be impressed by the man's accomplishments and his legacy, which when compared to his critics (both contemporary and modern) make his crit...

Re: The Cinepro Solution to the Book of Abraham

The only purpose [the facsimiles] serve is for LDS to assume Joseph Smith could translate Egyptian, and then to get really freaked out when they find out he could only "translate" "Egyptian".

Love that

Re: John Dehlin's Episode #500: Tom Phillips

He has already pulled it down. I saw a reddit thread on it this morning. When I clicked on the link to the Mormon Stories website, he had it up at the top (Episode 500). Now it is back down the page and says "To Be Released." Looks like John Dehlin pulled the trigger on it and then got co...

Re: Please Help John Dehlin

John Larsen once said in a podcast that John Dehlin is the greatest anti-Mormon of all time. I agree. There was a time when I couldn't listen to Mormon Expression because it was so over the top with swearing and negativity, but I had no problem with the more palatable Mormon Stories. John Dehlin he...

In the comments to Ben Park's statement on T&S, there is a very lovely thought (and admonition) from David Holland (the author of the one of two books Park reviewed) which I have quoted below. I would like to see DCP and Hamblin respond to this advice rather than continue their attacks on Park. ...

Re: On Despising Apostate Sanctimony

Something I've always found odd about early Mormon polygamy, and that has only been amplified by the recent Church essays, is how apologists treat Joseph Smith as being so unique in the story of polygamy. Obviously, we can't compare him to someone like Warren Jeffs, even if they did similar things ...
