kairos wrote: "maybe they needed smoky the bear to rip into the litterers! " Smokey the Bear's purview is forest fires, not littering. Wasn't it the owl that focused on littering? I remember the Give a Hoot, Don't Pollute thing when I was a kid. - Doc eta: I really need to do a Google sea...

Re: Calling all Apologists on the Mattson Matter
Of course, MG could react to this substantive post here, quoted by Lemmie and Kishkumen, or react to the one that lets him play the hurt sensitive Mormon feelings card and so change the subject away from the substance of Darth J's critique. Guess which one he picked? MG, would you mind looking at, a...

Re: Missionaries will be "boys"!
Well, it's stupid that missionaries can't seem to understand without being told that it's improper to leave their food wrappers lying around the chapel. As far as food being necessary, though, at least in my mission a mission conference or sometimes a zone conference was held quite far from my areas...

Re: Cognitive Dissonance - Black Box Thinking
Reframing the evidence, to me, looks more like this: "Well, it's true that the Book of Abraham facsimiles don't appear to have anything to do with Abraham, and in fact are accompanied by translations of the characters that Egyptologists have said are just plain wrong. That being said, I've felt...

Let's say I receive personal revelation that I should quit my job and move to Nebraska, with the spirit telling me that Monsanto will hire me for twice what I make now. I quit my job, move to Nebraska, and Monsanto tells me to sod off. I look around, and John Deere hires me for three times what I am...

I'm sure there's more context than was given here, but I don't agree that this statement of Tony Blair's was reframing the evidence: "The problem is that I can apologise for the information that turned out to be wrong, but i can't, sincerely at least, apologise for removing Saddam." He's a...

Re: Mormon Missionary Rules?
In a mission with a mandatory "investigator" presence to justify a DA (dinner appointment - missionaries love their acronyms just as much as the military it seems), one might think the missionaries would cultivate a nomo like Ceeboo specifically to open up some nice DA opportunities. ps: M...

Re: Cognitive Dissonance - Black Box Thinking
From your link. The United States had gone to war declaring it must destroy an active weapons of mass destruction program. Instead, American troops gradually found and ultimately suffered from the remnants of long-abandoned programs , built in close collaboration with the West. This was aimed at Fr...

Re: Mormonism isn't Christianity.
You have to not only believe in Jesus, you have to believe in him in the right way. By which I mean you have to believe in the correct way he is, and not only Jesus, but also the Father and the Holy Ghost. The Roman Catholic Church will recognize the baptism of anyone, by anyone, that was performed...

Re: Cognitive Dissonance - Black Box Thinking
Here's the problem: it wasn't unreasonable to believe Saddam had the weapons, because he had used WMD against his own people. The Kurds had been gassed just 15 years before GWB attacked Iraq in 2003, and chemical weapons are supposed to have been used in the south of Iraq to help quell the uprising ...
