Re: How long/intensely did you believe in the historicity of the Book of Mormon?
Planning every single person's country of origin and ethnicity would require absolute predestination. Perhaps the planning is necessary only for the small group of very faithful Latter-day Saints. Maybe the rest of us are parts in a machine that needs to run only at an efficiency level sufficient f...

If anyone is interested in a sober and rational look (with updates every week) at the Russian war on Ukraine: https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/ukraine-conflict-updates - Doc Just curious, Doctor Cam, if you were as big a supporter of the Iraq war as the people behind the Institute for ...

Re: Nephite coinage: 7s and exchange rates
This is a stellar discovery, Dr Moore! Readers of this forum hardly need to be reminded that Prof. Anthon was the scholar to whom Joseph Smith had sent Martin Harris for verification of the "Caractors" from the Book of Mormon plates in 1828. Your post raises a question that had never occurred to me:...

Re: Mopologetics and Converting “Great Men”
I maintain that it's better than anything I wrote in High School. Same here! It's even better than what I was writing in elementary school. I can tell you the theorists at George Mason University have explored this topic many times. Why voting on prices brings efficiency but voting in politics does...

Re: Mopologetics and Converting “Great Men”
I found another copy of the essay , complete with a nice photo of the author (see p. 152). I wonder if he tried out his German on Hayek. Hayek may not have recognized such pure German.  Perhaps Peterson was afraid of being mistaken for a Nazi. I have to give him credit, it's far better t...

Re: Right on Target!
Bump, for Symmachus. Agreed it is a spectacular thread! Thanks for the bump. Thank you, Dr Moore, for finding this and posting it here. Since I can't edit it, perhaps I shall write a slightly adjusted version and repost, as some of the characters are not appearing properly, which makes the argument...

Re: Mopologetics and Converting “Great Men”
That essay is some best Peterson that I have ever read. The only thing that comes close is his description of the trip. We can see already in Peterson the overuse of commas so characteristic of his pseudo-donnish style, reliant as it is on adverbial phrases and worthless subordinate clauses to paper...

Re: How long/intensely did you believe in the historicity of the Book of Mormon?
You say based upon your experience. What experience? Ordinary experience. I don't think this needs clarification, and it comes off as a hook to say "well just because you haven't seen an angel help a farmer translate gold tablets doesn't mean another person didn't." Of course that is logically true...

Re: How long/intensely did you believe in the historicity of the Book of Mormon?
I would ask the question: How would the World at Large be different IF the plates had not been taken back by Moroni? The plates had been taken and put on display in the Smithsonian and also accessible to scholars to handle and peruse the caractors. The world at large knew of and understood the sign...
