In honor of the anemic apologetic's towards Late War , I thought it would be appropriate to see how little changes over time. Richard Bushman's "Archive of Restoration Culture" file (which has been available on the BYU Studies website for years, m) treats Hunt's book, The Late War, as foll...

Re: Marriage a requirement for Church Educational System too
I had one of my closest friends work for CES. He was also terminated for similar reasons. It was heart breaking for him and difficult to get back on his feet. A very popular professor who specializes in Mormon Studies was terminated from CES for the same reason. I recently heard about another person...

Re: Another hit from Grudner
I am very glad that Rick posed this. I recall when I first saw this in 2008, I was floored. Not so much that Smith used names from other sources, but that he could have used a list like this. In reality, it does not matter if Smith had the list. It does not really matter if "The Late War" ...

Re: What if B.H. Roberts had known about Hunt's "Late War"?
A couple of summers ago I presented a paper where I argued that Roberts had lost faith in the ancient historicity of the Book of Mormon, but that he could never leave Mormonism. I argued that Roberts's family had become Mormonism, it was his home and family. Much of this had to do with his parents a...

Re: Book of Mormon translation: loose vs tight
I personally find B. H. Roberts's, New Witnesses for God, 3 vols., SLC: Deseret News, 1909, 3:, p.429 - 430 to have the best defense for a loose translation. Any of the defenses for a tight translation seems to be a huge step backwards. I wrote the below for a paper I presented at Sunstone two summe...

Re: Patience Loader Rozsa Archer
Young's handcart scheme was a sickening example of how greed can take over people. Nothing about the handcart scheme can be thought of as good or beneficial or successful. Thank goodness Will Bagley researched this subject and cast a spot light on this horrible episode in Mormon history. The handcar...

Re: Possible Modern Source for the Book of Mormon
I appreciate the kind words, Joe. Unfortunately, I can't take the credit. It is Chris Johnson who found this work. I am merely reporting what I noticed on my news feed at Facebook. You are welcome Kish. Maybe you can pass on the link for Rick's excellent work to Chris. I am sure he will find it int...

Re: Possible Modern Source for the Book of Mormon
I am very excited to read this Kish. A great find. One of the great experiences of my life has to become friends with people who are much better read and much more thoughtful than myself. I think of you Kish as one of those folks. One other person who fits in this category is Rick Grunder. he has he...

Re: 2nd Coming According to Intellectual Property
This is a very interesting post Willie. A real keeper. I love the links, they are such fun. This entire subject is quite interesting. The history of Church logos and how they are developed was discussed in 2012 in an amazing presentation at Sunstone given by Randall Smith. m I have encouraged Randal...
