Re: Interpreter 2.0?

I don't think it's a bad logo. It's an open book, but it also looks like multiple paths with a nice little doorway as the right path through them, or opening up into all of them, or something. My only problem is that being all bent around backwards like that is going to be awfully bad for that book'...

Re: Your Ego May Be F****** up your Perception

I'd call that progress! Medicine names are usually so opaque. I still remember the Rogaine commercials from the 1990s that urged you to "ask your doctor if Rogaine is right for you" but gave me at least no idea at all of what condition the product was supposed to treat.

Re: I Can't Eye-Roll Hard Enough Over DCP's Latest

Götterdämmerung, a snifter of orange soda, and a hearty pastrami sandwich Am I right that the soda and sandwich are to be consumed while listening to Wagner, or is Götterdämmerung a Mormon delicacy like funeral potatoes and lime jello? (I may just be confused by the fact that the possibly ironical ...

Re: Ideology, Religion, and Mormonism

I was thinking more about the relationship between religion and politics in fascism, which is shaped by the myth of the nation state. I had not really considered that BY’s Zion may or may not fit in such a conversation. My guess is that pre-modern empires do not, but I am open to correction. For wh...

Re: Your Ego May Be F****** up your Perception

It's hard to see what Fahrvergnügen or Fahrvergnuegen (if you can't find an "ü" you can always write it as "ue") has to do with perception: it means "the enjoyment of driving". It was apparently popularised in English by Volkswagen in some commercials that ran in the 1990s, though I don't remember s...

Re: The fried egg.

Maybe it's a big fried egg, from a big chicken, fried in a big pan? I'm trying to stop overthinking things and I feel that this is a good start.

Re: I Can't Eye-Roll Hard Enough Over DCP's Latest

I confess to having lost track of exactly when Easter is this year myself. In the past year we have changed to a non-liturgical church, so we have missed the steady weekly countdown through Lent. I also decided not to give up beer for Lent this year, because it was going to come awfully soon after D...

Re: NAR Lawsuit

Sure, I get that there are other factors to keep agents honest even if their commissions tempt them otherwise. There are lots of professions whose practitioners could harm the public—doctors and police, for example. We trust professional oversight, training, and culture to keep them working for the ...

Re: NAR Lawsuit

"incentive to arrange a higher price"? Not sure what you mean here. If your wife had somehow negotiated a $40K lower closing price instead of only $20K, that would have been $600 less money in her commission than she ended up getting. If instead she had impressed that lady by wangling blinds and a ...
